How much did you previously spend on gas?

My cost savings are significantly above what I expected.  For my summer driving to work and back (sans any other driving), 4 days a week, 10.6 mile round trip, 4 weeks per month average, fuel economy is about 1kw/h per 5 miles, 12c per kw/h, 3.50/gal gas:

Expedition: $49.46

Focus: $24.73

The Fusion: $4.97 :)

Plus time saved not going to the gas station, waiting in lines, risking credit card theft at the pump, etc.  I'm happy.

I went from a F250 Diesel using 150 gallons a month to my Energi using about 18 gallons a month.  Cant beat that!!

If you want to add in electricity I use about about 16 bucks worth of it charging the car a month.  With diesel around 3.80 here right now and mogas at 3.05 I am saving about 500 a month on fuel.  I did like driving my tank around but I had never used it as intended so decided it was time to get into something a little more inline with the driving I am doing.

I do miss the whine of the turbo along with the sound and smell of the diesel though.

Just filled up wife's Energi for the 8th time (best yet this time 143 MPG), and passed the 6-month mark last week.  Had .2 shy of 9,000 miles when I filled up.  Been keeping a spreadsheet of every fill-up, and compared to costs of gas in her AWD Edge that averaged 17MPG, as well as hypothetical comparison to if she'd gotten a Fusion Titanium (Gas) which I estimated at 30MPG (close enough for estimation), or a Fusion Titanium Hybrid which I estimated at 40 MPG (I get around 50 in my SE Hybrid but something goes wrong with it whenever she drives and she gets about 35-38, so 40 is close enough for estimation.  So here goes -

9,000 miles, used 93 gallons fuel, cost of $301.

The Edge, calculated for each fill-up miles at same price, would have cost $1,719 in fuel over the 6 months (saved $1,418)

The hypothetical Fusion Titanium Gas, calculated for each fill-up miles at same price, would have cost $974 in fuel over the 6 months (would have saved $673)

The hypothetical Fusion Titanium Hybrid, calculated for each fill-up miles at same price, would have cost $730 in fuel over the 6 months (would have saved $429)

Yes the electricity costs for charging eat into that, but the electric bill has only gone up about $30 per month as expected, so take away $180 from the above totals for the MPGe crowd...

All-in-all, wife is very pleased with the great car and I am very pleased at not taking her car to gas station twice per week by now just over once per month and saving a lot of money.

I just got mine on Tuesday so I am not sure yet what my cost will be. I charge up at home ($) and at my primary worksite (free). I have a couple of trips a week that are beyond EV range but most are electric only.i am estimating my $400 budget could go as low as $150. I hope for the best.

Peace,

Father Bill

I used to have a 2013 Ford Edge SEL V6 not the eco boost and was averaging around 17 miles in the City. (It was terrible on gas since 99% of my driving is city based in Los Angeles). My monthly fuel expenses were anywhere from $130-$200 depending on how much I needed to travel and how bad traffic was!

As of today I am 2 months in on my 2014 Fusion Energi Titanium and I couldn't be happier. With 696 miles on the odometer I have yet to fill up on gas. The best part is I still have over 3/4 of a tank left from the dealer! Right now I am averaging 161+MPG due to my being able to charge up at work for FREE   and for the most part a 14 mile round trip commute. So most of the time me being the cheap bastard I am I only charge up at work ;)

I do need to make another trip to the dealer to work out a rattle in the driver mid section of the car and there is a funky felt piece that is visible coming from the gear selector but so far I give the Fusion a 9.5 out of 10! The .5 deduction is due to the coat hanger in the rear which is just about useless and very difficult to get to since the "oh shit" handle is so close to it!

Simply put this was a fantastic economic decision and I have 0 regrets to date.
