Using the real key to open the drivers door.

Have you tried opening the drivers door with the key in the FOB? If not you should because when you need to, your owners manual will be safely locked in the glove box.

It is on pages 44 and 45 of the PDF I have.

It is pretty simple. Take the key and under the cap at the rear of the door handle is a hole. Press the key gently into the hole and slide the cap towards the rear of the car. Wallah...

How do you disable the alarm in that situation? Drop the fob in the console pouch and push the button to start?

Yes or enter your code on the door pillar.

The only time the metal key should be needed is if the 12 volt battery is completely dead in which case the alarm isn't going to sound.

For a dead battery in the IA key use the door pillar key pad to unlock the car and then put the IA key in the console pocket to operate the car.
