I'm now at 10k miles and want to do my first change on this car. I'm sure it's pretty similar to any other car and since I've changed the oil almost 90 times in my truck I've got the general procedure down. The procedure is the same for the hybrid and Energi, except that I forgot to note in my original post over there (applies to both models) that when removing the fiberglass cover from the bottom of the engine to take a screwdriver and pop the two plastic retainers down and then you can pop them back into place when ready to put the cover back on. Your post reminds me I have two sets of ramps in the shed! The Boss 302 is too low to use ramps and the truck is fine to slide right under. I'll get it done this week sometime. jeff_h Posted February 12, 2014 at 01:44 AM Report Share Posted February 12, 2014 at 01:44 AM (edited) Check the clearance carefully with the ramps in case your ramps are too high -- the ones I have are more low-profile like the below pic I found online, with ones like these the car clears OK but there's not a whole lot of extra clearance, but it doesn't make contact and that's the important thing. Fat Fusion Posted February 18, 2014 at 12:16 AM Author Report Share Posted February 18, 2014 at 12:16 AM I couldn't wait for my Fumoto valve to arrive since the weather was about 70* with a nice breeze. :skateboard: As stated in the link provided by Jeff, you'll need a Torx T30 bit with ratchet for the 11 belly pan screws, a 15mm socket or wrench for the plug, and a flat head screwdriver for the 2 plastic retainers on the fiber board belly pan. I reused the plastic retainers. They're actually somewhat helpful to hold the belly pan in place as you start the 11 screws that hold it in place. I used 4.5 QTS of 0W-20 synthetic and the 910S filter. I'm glad I changed it at 10,000 miles even though my oil life monitor said 48%. The oil was darker than I would have expected it to be. I use the ICE quite a bit though. Here's some pics for all y'all stuck inside somewhere. My custom ramps I made for my Boss 302. Nice to leverage them into usage here. Pointing out the plug. Reminds me of a motorcycle how it goes in sideways. Not the cleanest oil I've ever seen. Here's a pic of the filter. Nice that it's easy to access. I neglected to poke a hole in the bottom first. I'm used to reaching up in annoying areas for the oil filter on all the vehicles I've owned or worked on. Looks like that one will be a snap to change. When I do my oil change, I'll probably go with Mobil 1 extended performance, or I may hit the dealership to see if they have some sort of specialty oil that lasts 2 years. The Mobil 1 is good for 15k or 1 year, whichever comes first. I'm wondering if Motorcraft oil is certified to actually last 2 years, or if the engine is so tight and sealed that it just does. Did I miss something about 0W-20 in colder climates? Also didn't see it speak to synthetic vs conventional. Prior car, G35, the manual recommended conventional oil. Since this is an EV car, many times its not so I wait until I have a trip somewhere using the engine and drop the oil when I get home while its still hot. This way it flows easier and carries more contaminents with it. I changed my oil once so far, the dealer did the first one free at 20k miles and I did the 2nd one myself at 40k miles and found that the dealer damaged the bottom engine cover taking it off and also didn't not put one of the screws back in (1 missing), bitch! -=>Raja.
