Horrible experience!

Today I pulled into my garage, turned off the car and went to get out...only to find that i could not! I hit the unlock icon on the door: nothing. I hit the same on my key fob and again, nothing. I en tried to manually pull the door handle; no go!! I was LOCKED in my car! I could feel panic begin to set in as i repeated these actions over and over again to no avail. Unfortunately, i began to experience a true panic attack. I tried to hold it together as i dialed Ford's technical department. I told the gentleman what I was experiencing, who then put me on hold for the next 5 minutes!! (5 minutes is a lifetime when you are having a panic attack). I hung up and called back. The second gentleman asked me if I tried my key fob and/or door handle. Uh! YES?! I then asked if it was possible for Ford to remotely unlock my car door. No they have no way of doing that. He suggested I call roadside assistance (if 10 minutes seems unbearable, imagine the thought of remaining in that state for another 30 minutes or worse!).

I had no other alternative but to call roadside to at least get that option going. While they had me on hold, i again went through my paces: key fob, door handle, unlock button..nothing. Repeating these steps once more, I hear a click. I try the door. It unlocks and I am out!

If I had been in that car 2 more seconds I would have thrown up. It was a terrible experience to say the least.

Once I called Ford to try to find out why this happened so that it wouldn't ever happen again. Unfortunately, they didn't seem to know why it occurred and suggested I take it to the dealer and have it analyzed. This I will do but my suspicion is that it will have been a random event which means it will be possible that this could occur again.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what did you learn?

The door handle should of worked regardless if the door is locked or unlocked if you are inside the car. You should take it into Ford and have them check it out.

If the car is off and the 12v battery is dead, nothing will work including the locks/key fob. The door handle should of worked though which is strange..

Did you try and roll the window down? Do you think you could of moved to the passenger seat and try that door?

Did you try to power the car back on and then off (start stop or key turn).

This is the same as I was thinking, as today's car seem to be more like computers with needing software updates and all - so cycling the car on for 10 seconds and and off (or off for 10 seconds and on) seems like the equivalent of a Clt-Alt-Del and may have helped.  Yeah definitely run a VHR and take it in to see if any codes are stored, but maybe the start cycle is also something that would have helped?

I don't understand how the door handle itself didn't open the door.  Pulling on the door handle, unless you have child locks turned on (that's only on the rear doors anyway) should always open the door unless there's a mechanical failure.  Pulling on the handle overrides door locks, or at least it's supposed to.

One thing I was wondering is if she drove in freezing rain or something and her door was frozen shut when she finally got to the garage.

Just for the heck of it, when I was driving my vehicle today on a deserted street above the 10 MPH or so after I heard the automatic door locks engage, it reminded me of this "HORRIBLE" post so I decided to OPEN the drivers door - IT OPENED WITHOUT INCIDENT. Go Figure !

Anxious to hear the resolution/more details involving this incident...
