New 14 Energi bought b/f garage ready for charging

Great forum.  I just bought a 2014 Energi Titanium in Sterling Grey.  I have been looking at the Fusion Energi ever since a bank of level 2 chargers was installed in my garage at work but was going to wait until I had the time to research chargers and to add a dedicated line in the garage (my garage only has 1 outlet that is taken up with garage door opener, freezer, and TV).  

 

The reason I bought early was because of the 0% financing and the fact that the California carpool stickers for plugs in will probably run out in April or May (36,000 of the 40,000 available carpool stickers were issued by the end of Feb. and they around 2500 to 3000 are being issued a month: with a 4-6 week backlog to get the stickers, waiting any longer means likely not getting a carpool sticker).  Actually, once I realized the stickers may already be gone because of the application backlog, I jumped the gun and bought the Fusion (I would have bought anyway but the carpool sticker was the kicker for me).

 

I bought the car with the stickers on it already (somehow, the dealer I went to had stickers for all their energis/ other dealers didn't) but don't have anywhere to plug it in at home yet.  I have been scouring the forum (already got some good info) and the internet for options but need to find an electrician to set up the dedicated line first.  If anyone has had a good experience with an electrician for this kind of work in Southern California (LA/Orange County), I would appreciate a referral.

 

So far the car has been great.  I will wait to get past the first 1000 miles to comment on mileage since so far I am getting around 31 mpg (but again, first 100 miles and based on no charge since I can't charge at home yet).

Welcome! and definitely don’t look at your mileage before the 1k mark, especially with no charging!

I've heard people say that, but the two times I've driven my car with a depleted battery, the trip computer showed 43 and 47 mpg, and I just cleared 500 miles.

 

I've now realized it's going to be very difficult to get an around town gas mileage figure on this car, seeing that it looks like I'll be filling up every six or seven weeks.

I've now realized it's going to be very difficult to get an around town gas mileage figure on this car, seeing that it looks like I'll be filling up every six or seven weeks.

I revise my prior statement.  My car had around 80 miles on it when I purchased it.  Now that I am paying closer attention.  I am getting around 42-45 mpg according to the trip computer per uncharged trip and have brought the 31 mpg overall number up to 63 mpg and still climbing according to the car now that I am charging at work (I often make the 25 mile trip home on just electricity). 

 

Makes me wonder how the car was being driven the first 80 miles at the dealership to get the relatively low 31 mpg number.

 

The car has surpassed my mpg expectations so far (even the first 500 miles).  Better yet, once I figure out the best option for setting up a charger in my garage (electric rate options are more complicated than I first thought), mpg will cease to have any meaning for me.

I have right at 3500 miles on my car. This weekend trip out of town, with only a partial initial charge, and lots of stopping to check things out, climping/down elevation (Hood River area, going up to Mt Hood) running the heater, freeway driving, around town driving, etc, I averaged 42mpg over 250 miles. Cant really complain about that.

Most likely, the low mpg while the car was at the dealership was cold starts and very short trips.  That's the sort of mission that the battery is brilliant at.  My daughter decided to clean the guinea pig enclosure this evening, so we had to make a run to Petsmart.  I was down to 1 mile on the battery, so I asked her to go do something else for a half hour while I finished something up.  I plugged the car in for 30 minutes, and we made the 5.6 mile round drip on about 18 cents worth of electricity.
