I have a 2013 FFE Titanium with the Intelligent Access Key FOB.  I bought a third key as a spare.  I have been trying to program it per the instructions manual.  I can not seem to get it to work.  Has anyone else been able to do this and how?  My dealer want $99.00 to program it.

Programming a Spare Intelligent Access Key

Note: You can program a maximum for four intelligent access keys to your vehicle.

You must have two previously programmed intelligent access keys inside your vehicle and the new unprogrammed intelligent access keys readily accessible. See an authorized dealer to have the spare key programmed if two previously programmed keys are not available.

Make sure that the vehicle is off before beginning this procedure. Make sure that you close all the doors before beginning and that they remain closed throughout the procedure. Perform all steps within 30 seconds of starting the sequence. Stop and wait for at least one minute before starting again if you perform any steps out of sequence.

Read and understand the entire procedure before you begin.

  1. Place a programmed intelligent access key in the backup slot in the center console. The key ring must be at the top with the buttons facing toward the rear.

  2. Wait 5 seconds, then press the START/STOP button.

  3. Remove the intelligent access key.

  4. Within 10 seconds, place a second programmed intelligent access key in the backup slot and press the START/STOP button.

  5. Wait 5 seconds, then press the START/STOP button again.

  6. Remove the intelligent access key.

  7. Wait 5 seconds, then place the unprogrammed intelligent access key in the backup slot and press the START/STOP button.

Programming is now complete. Verify the remote control functions operate and the vehicle starts with the new intelligent access key.

If programming was not successful, wait 10 seconds and repeat Steps 1 through 7. If you are still unsuccessful, take your vehicle to your authorized dealer.

I never got it to work.

I complained to Ford, through the Ford representative on the forum, that their programming process did not work .

The customer representative that contacted me eventually agreed to cover the programming cost if there was any.

My dealer programmed the key at no cost to me other than I had to sit in their waiting room for two hours and caught a bad cold while sitting there.

Avoiding the two hour wait in their waiting room was why I wanted to do it myself.  The process worked fine in my 2010 Fusion Hybrid.

One thing I learned while testing the new key was that only two remote starts can be done within the same hour.  After two the car locks out remote start until the hour expires or you manually start the car yourself.

  • 4 years later...

This worked for me after MANY tries on my 2015 FFE with MySync. The Ford website says something about 3x unlock, stop/start, 3x lock, stop/start...  blah blah.  That doesn't work at all.

So I tried the below.  I think I waited too long each time, counting out 5 slowly.  I saw a YouTube video that said do it quickly.  After 40 minutes, I tried it as fast as I could, and voila, the below worked and I programmed a third key I bought on Amazon for $80.

I also had a hard time finding the pocket because I didnt see it in the manual.  In my center console, when I open it up, there is a small rectangular pocket near the A/V in and USB in, etc.  (I searched everywhere else in the center console for another pocket like under the cup holder on some other Ford models.

PM if any questions.

Also search YouTube because someone did it on a later FFE model and said do it quickly. They were right.
