Won't "start"

This happened to me today:

Stopped by the local hospital to visit a friend.  Was delighted to see 6 EV charging stations.

Pulled into the EV space, little blue lights flashed around the circle, so I walked off to visit my friend.

Came back after about 30 minutes and noticed the car was not charging.  No little blue lights.

Unplugged the car, got in and the yellow plug light flashed on and the error message that the car was still plugged in.  The car would not start, not shift, but it played the radio and made phone calls.  Got out plugged and unplugged the EV cable several times.  No luck.  Called Galpin Ford, no help, guy took my number, promised to call me with some suggestions.  Never called.  Tried to find a way to reset the car still plugged in notice.  Called Ford again, after waiting on hold for 20 minutes the tech guy says, well try unplugging the 12Volt battery.  Popped the hood, unplugged the battery, then the car starts running the diagnostic panels talked about by others.  No amount of pushing OK would get that to stop.  Now I get the golden spanner warning light, then the check engine light comes on, followed by the anti-skid light and the limited slip light.

Finally, I figure out how to pull the black 12V clamp off, plug it back in and the yellow Plug light went out so the car would start and I could drive home.  Ford never called back.

Got home and plugged in my 110 charger and it seesm to be charging.  Find out more in the morning.

My 2016 Ford Energi Titanium is such a beautiful vehicle.  My husband and I were impressed with it on so many levels both when I first got it and also after traveling in it...then, at Thanksgiving when we were ready to head home we found it would not start.  Simply dead!  We called Ford Roadside Assistance thinking it simply needed a battery boost. They came quickly but the person seemed to have little (none?) training on hybrids and was unable to start the car.  Of course, the nearest dealership informed me they could not help until the next week.  Sorry, but we HAD to get home due to commitments.  After many phone calls, I found a dealership about 30 miles away who said they would try to take a look and Ford roadside assistance towed it in.  They managed to get the car started before the dealership closed and we drove safely home. Of course, the entire day was spent trying to resolve this.

 

 

So, I hoped it was a blip or the key fob had been pressed too many times by the children.  Yesterday, I went to start the car and guess what?  DEAD!  It had been plugged in.  The app indicates that it is fully charged.  Do I have a lemon???  Any suggestions?

You need a new 12 volt battery.  Once a wet cell lead acid battery has been completely discharged it is probably internally damaged and needs to be replaced.  The 12 volt battery is charged at the end of the charge cycle for the HVB.  Unfortunately the car does not monitor and restart charging if the 12 volt battery gets low.  There are terminals under the hood that are used to jump start the 12 volt battery.  When the car is off the HVB is completely disconnected.  12 volts must be available to close the contactors that connect the HVB to the car.  Please read your manual and learn where the terminals are located.  With your original problem, connecting 12 volts to the terminals under the hood would have got you back in operation.

Just to add on to this thread, I've had the "flashing start button/will not drive" thing happen to me twice in the three weeks I've owned my used 2017 Fusion Energi. Last night I was parked on a slight incline behind my son's car (my old Prius) and every time I'd try to back up, it rolled forward instead. Turning it off and back on again (classic IT move) has helped. I guess I'll take it in to the dealer at some point if it continues.
