SYNC / Music / Voice Command questions

My FFE is on order. Does the voice command system (for music) work with any external media player or do you have to first upload the files to the sync’s internal hard drive? I found out the internal hard drive is only 10Gbs (!) which was extremely disappointing given that a $10 thumb drive can hold 32 Gbs. My MP3 player holds 60 Gbs of music. I’m unclear how a voice command feature can work on an external player that doesn’t have that technology?

Also, neither the salesman or myself could find a regular auxiliary (mini-plug) input, only usb and sd etc.

If there is a way to load music on to the system itself, I haven't found it.  I too have read that the Myford Touch has a 10GB storage drive, but I have no idea how to access it or if that was actually a type-o.  Personally, I use a 32GB micro thumb drive to store all of my music.

As far as using voice commands on an external device... if it is plugged in to USB, the system should identify it as an external hard drive (just like a USB thumb drive) and it can index your music from that.

There is no 1/8" input jack on the Fusion system.  If you wanted to use something similar, you'd need to buy a male stereo RCA adapter to 1/8" headphone jack and plug that in to the red/white RCA plugs in your center console.

The internal 10GB hard drive (called the jukebox) was a feature on my 2010 FFH, and I assume also on the 2011 and 2012 models.  I use my 16GB iPod Nano in the USB on a daily basis and update for daily podcasts, but you could load music on the large thumb drive and just leave it plugged into a USB and not worry about storage space for a long time.

Added - and yes each time I plug in the iPod the system indexes it, then builds the voice commands for the contents.  I don't know if a thumb drive does it the same way as I always use the iPod.

I use my music player in other places besides the car. If it has to index 60 gigs of music every time I get in the car, how long will that take?

So the solution is copying the files to a 64GB external drive and leaving it plugged in?

Then again every time I add new music to my Windows Media Player library I will have to sync my music player and unplug the 2nd drive and sync it as well and return it to the car?

Gotta be an easier way ;)
