Questions about Rear Spoiler in 2014 FFE Titanium

Is it just a cosmetic feature, or does it have any real world driving value, especially in terms of MPG? I doubt FFE owners are going to be travelling at speeds where the downward force a rear spoiler may create would be of benefit.

I certainly like it better than the higher profile spoiler that I've seen on earlier model Fusions, but I'm not sure that I would elect to have it on there if the choice was up to me. Isn't it just extra weight that could even impair the vehicle's gas mileage?

If there is a difference I would say it is extremely small, IMHO it's mainly there for looks only, and for those that don't want it there was a way to place an order with a 'spoiler delete' for those who didn't want it, at least in the 2013 model (but I *think* I may have seen a thread that this code is no longer available for 2015 orders, not sure).

There used to be a delete option on the 2014 models for the Titanium but Ford eliminated it for 2015 due to the low take rate.

I found this on one of the sites used by fleet buyers about changes in ordering specs.  I just ordered a new 2015 Ford Fusion Titanium

last Saturday and the dealer told me there was no delete option for the spoiler even though the 2014 brocure I had showed a delete option.

After I ordered the vehicle, I decided to search the web to see if it was true that you could not delete the spoiler on the Titanium and found

a site saying it was eliminated because of the low take rate!
