Charging Battery to 26m instead of 31

Hi guys,

 

This may be a dumb question, but there was one time when I charged my car, it would list 31 miles and the battery looked full. Now I'm just seeing 26 miles and the battery states it's full. But when I check MyFord online, it said the battery is full, but when I mouse over the meter, it says If i charge for another hour, it would go to 31.. 

 

Anyone have any idea about this?

Look at the My Ford Touch EV info screen in the car.  Does it say the battery is 100% charged?  If not, then charging is stopping prematurely.  You will have to then check your Go times and Value Charging Profile to make sure they are set up correctly.

I have the same issue, except I have a 2014 Fusion Energi SE.  Initially I would get a charge of up to 25 miles.  It has gone down significantly, all the way down to 16 miles.  have a long commute so using as much EV mileage is preffered!  Am I doing anything wrong? Any suggestions out there?

This is usually caused by leaving the AC on instead of using vent only. Turn the climate system off and you should notice the miles jump by 3-4 immediately on the screen.

Definitely check to see if the climate is on.  If it is on, then turn it off and the mileage should go up around 5 miles.  Also the mileage is just an estimate based on your driving habits.

 

Now, not to panic anyone, but my 2013 started showing less miles which was a prelude to my 12-volt battery dying.  My "full charge" began to show less and less over a 2-week period (big battery charges the 12-volt) and then I started getting "system off due to battery conservation" warnings, and finally I started receiving "low 12-volt battery" MFM alerts.  I scheduled an appoint with the dealer and with the help of Ashley (Ford rep), they determined it was a bad 12-volt battery.  Keep in mind, this is the 2nd 12-volt battery that my car had in one year.  When I took delivery of the vehicle, the 12-volt was bad and replaced.  I thought it was a bigger issue with the system because the 12-volt wasn't being charged, but the Ford service techs did not see any "drains" and ruled everything out.

Remember the car is GUESSING how much range you have based solely on how it is driven (acceleration, climate, braking, etc.) and SOC. If the car reads 100% battery then you have a full charge. All you have to do is floor it once and your estimates will be off. I've had mine for over a year and driving home is better mileage than going to work (it's up hill and headwind matters). Going home I'll see 25 miles, going to work, MAYBE 18-21. I know the distance is 19.2, but in the winter I seldom make it butduring the summer I usually do make it to work on battery.

If the last time you drove it, you drove it like you stole it (fast, on the interstate, fast acceleration, used the heater or A/C a lot) the car remembers it, and the next time you try to use it, it will give you an estimation of you many miles it thinks you will get if you drive that way on this charge.

 

If you baby it along, the 18-20 on the display might even go UP, as the computer reacts to how you're driving it, and how much battery is remaining...
