Pre-conditioning in garage?

The car has to be connected to AC power using a charger to precondition.  If it's a 240 volt charger all power will come from the charger.  If it's the 120 volt charger that came with the car some battery power may be used.  Pre-conditioning can be done in the garage.  The engine will not be used,  That would be very dangerous in the garage.

No I live in FL, it's plenty warm outside.  I'm frustrated I've only had the car two days and already have a check engine light on.

Well that's certainly understandable, a new car is supposed to be in top shape - and as they've become more software-based, they seem (at least to me) to be more susceptible to error codes (i.e., event viewer on a PC) that require updates (i.e., Windows Update) to correct the various software issues that arise.

That's not to say that it's definitely software, as I had my HVB fan launch trouble codes after 3 months and 10k miles, replaced that fan and it's been fine ever since... so hardware issues can also occur.

Sounds like a trip to the dealer is needed to see what code is causing the CEL, especially if it hasn't gone off after 3 start/stop cycles (I've seen posts that mentioned that some codes will go away on their own after 3 cycles if the condition no longer exists) -- below is a link to the TSB thread (I updated it last week after a Ford tech emailed me about 8-10 ones I didn't have), and note that a lot of them seem to be software-based where the solution is to update the software to version xx or later.

Let us know how it goes, as  we all know nobody wants to deal with issues right off the bat and hope it gets cleared up quickly.

Myself and a handful of others on here have had the CEL come on within the first 5k miles (500 miles for me).  If your build date was before 11-5-13, I'd wager you'd fall into this TSB.  I had this one applied and all has been well since.

...I also think the pre-conditioning is causing my check engine light to turn on.

Hi bbonds202,

Welcome to the forum! I'm Crystal, the Ford Service rep on this site. As others have suggested, it sounds like it's time for a trip to the dealership. Come back and post your results; I'll be here if you need my help. :)

Crystal
