If you are not having any problem with your car I recommend that you wait until you receive the letter in the mail.  By that time the dealers will be familiar with the problem and parts will be available to install the fix.  They will need some time to ramp up production of the replacement for the affected part.

A long-time member on the hybrid forum recently experienced this fault and gives details below, and also notes that his dealer said that they've been seeing a lot of these failures and how the dealer is expecting that a recall would be done due to the number of failures - and then just a few days later there is 14S21.

Note on the above letter the build dates, so this should only affect 2013 and early 2014 builds.

Very interesting. My car is in right now with a bad RCM. They are definitely right about the insufficient inventory. Mine has been backordered for 3 weeks now. Customer care says he can 'put me to the top of the list' and that they are shipping 1400+ units every monday, so they are going bad in droves. My airbag lights (dash and up in the middle for the pass airbag) came on, traction control on light, traction control off light, service advancetrac warning on left screen, and collision warning system inactive warning on left screen. Oh, and the backup camera lost its 'ghost lines' for some reason. Here's a link to my original post from when it happened.

It's funny that the recall comes out now. it has been at the dealer 30 days today. the first couple weeks were battling with ford to get them to even agree to replace it. The only reason they did is an engineer came out and looked at my car, said they can't prove without a doubt that I have been in an accident, so they will replace it. It has been a constant headache from the beginning.

I just received my recall notice in the mail.  It says that if my airbag warning indicator is not illuminated no action is required now.  Ford will notify me when parts are available to replace the RCM.  That is expected to be in the 3Q of 2015.

I suspect that RCM module in my car is faulty.  Today the airbag light came on and I received several failure warnings from the driver assist features such as the backup sensor, BLIS, and cross traffic alerts.  Regen did not always work along with cruise control.  The warning for the backup sensors was very persistent, it kept blocking the left display during the entire trip.  After pressing OK, it came right back.  Hopefully a module will be available to replace the current one.

I haven't had any further incidents since Friday afternoon.  It happened after I washed the car.  I am going to assume that water vapor condensed on cold wire or circuits causing the car to temporarily malfunction.  There is a lot of steam in the car wash when it is cold--it is hard to see.
