2014 Dead Fusion Energi - defective battery?

Ford Roadside assistance towed my 2014 Fusion Energi to the dealership for the 2nd time in two weeks. First time they said "defective battery" and they replaced it. Car was dead again on Christmas morning. Tow #2 yesterday to dealer and haven't heard back yet. Is anyone else having this problem in a 2014? Any solutions?

Let me know when you hear back from your dealer, I can check into some additional assistance.

If your car has died twice in 2 weeks, it could be any number of things, but one item that has popped up a couple times is that a short develops in the wiring of one of the high voltage battery fans causing the fan to run continuously, draining the 12v.

Hopefully your dealer is able to resolve this issue for you.

My wife called me this morning freaking out cause her car was totally dead....and locked.  The car was fully charged yesterday and we unplugged it overnight and when she tried to leave for work this morning she could not get in the car and had to use the key in the keyfob and the hidden keyhole in the door to get into the car.  I had go home and jump it off and it started with no problem.  If you hear anything from your dealer, please post an update.

If your wife has a short drive to work she may find it dead again when time to go home.  It takes a long time, about 25 miles, to charge a 12 volt battery from dead.  Also a 12 volt wet cell battery that is completely dead is usually damaged by being totally discharged.

Murphy, thanks for the advise.   We live in Atlanta and her commute is greater than 25 miles so hopefully we will be good. Would you suggest taking it in to the dealer to have it checked out?

Hi grewyghost88,

I recommend making an appointment with your dealer to have this looked into. Once you have, please let me know, along with your mileage. I can loop in your customer service manager for additional assistance.

I got my car back after the 2nd time in Ford Service for dead battery issue.  They kept the car a few extra days to make sure the same thing didn't happen to them.  Thank you Russael for your information regarding a possible short in the wiring of the high voltage battery fans.  The first time my car died it was as dead as greyghost88's wife's car and that freaked me out.  I didn't even KNOW about the hidden key, thank goodness the guy from AAA did!

I highly recommend taking (or towing) your vehicle to Ford Service to have it checked.  Ford Roadside Assistance towed my car both times at no cost to me.  Each time they have replaced the 12-volt battery and performed "updates".  Also, an official record of issues is being compiled in case we need it later.  I like driving new cars because I am relatively certain that when I get in it to go somewhere it will RUN.  So far, so good after this last trip to Ford Service.  I will keep you posted.
