Neil Posted January 15, 2015 at 07:52 PM Report Share Posted January 15, 2015 at 07:52 PM I recent ran my car's VIN on Carfax and it is only showing the first oil change and tire rotation I had done at the Dealer. The second service record only shows as a 'Maintenance Check' with no work done, so Carfax is reporting my car is 'over due' for oil changes and tire rotation. I have had the oil changed and tires rotated on my FFE 2 times since I bought it new. Most of you probably already know that if you have the work done at the Ford Dealership and you have an 'Owner Advantage Awards' account, you get a credit each time - at my dealership I get a credit for 10% of the charges put into my account. They also keep track of the oil changes, and you get a free one for ever 4 oil changes you buy. If you combine that with 'The Works' oil change and tire rotation coupon, it's cheaper than doing it yourself. Anyway... The last time they forgot to credit my 'Owner's Advantage Awards' account and I had to call them to get it done. Now, I checked Carfax and it's not showing the oil change or tire rotation. I could update it myself, but it'll show on Carfax as 'owner updated', which is questionable. Am I being too picky to expect them to correctly update Carfax? lonzo71 Posted January 15, 2015 at 08:25 PM Report Share Posted January 15, 2015 at 08:25 PM Carfax isnt mandatory and personally, I wish they didnt use it. If you want them to update it, you can ask
murphy Posted January 15, 2015 at 10:33 PM Report Share Posted January 15, 2015 at 10:33 PM None of the service entries in my ford owner account say what was actually done. And a dealer entry can't be edited by the owner. The visit to take care of a recall says "scheduled maintenance". Totally worthless records. Can you please explain what each oil change costs per your program and how it's cheaper than DIY? I'm intrigued. Thanks!
Neil Posted January 16, 2015 at 09:24 PM Author Report Share Posted January 16, 2015 at 09:24 PM (edited) I'm curious about the math on this. Can you please explain what each oil change costs per your program and how it's cheaper than DIY? I'm intrigued. Thanks!Sure - the coupon is $29.99 for an oil change and tire rotation (couple of other BS inspection things too). For my other cars I do it myself and get whatever Synthetic oil and filter is on sale at Advance Auto, which normally runs about $32+tax. Granted, the dealer is using synthetic blend, whereas I would use full synthetic, but so it's not a full Apples to Apples comparison, but close enough in my book. So, I get 10% credited to my 'Owner's Advantage Account' (approx $2.90) and after 4 oil changes I get a free one, so I figure each oil change I get another 25% credit, so roughly another $7.50 off each change (assuming I get that 5th/free oil change). So, after 5 oil changes with the dealer (5th one is free) I have paid about $108.40 (($29.99*4) - ($2.90*4)) whereas if I did it myself I would have paid $160 ($32*5). Plus the tires get rotated (pain in the butt to DIY) and I don't have to fiddle with removing the plate under the engine bay to get to the oil drain/filter. murphy Posted January 16, 2015 at 10:34 PM Report Share Posted January 16, 2015 at 10:34 PM All of the dealers in my area, SEPA, dropped out of the Owner Advantage program. When the first dealer dropped out he gave sufficient warning so I was able to use the money that was in my account. The second dealer gave no warning and I lost what was in the account. So, for example, after oil change #1 you have a $2.90 balance. When you pay for your 2nd oil change can you use the $2.90 balance so that you don't run the risk of losing much of a balance? Where do you get the coupon? Is it on the Ford Owner website? Is it always there?
