12 V Battery

I'm going to be out of town for several weeks and want to hook my 2013 12 V battery up to a trickle charge battery tender.

The last time I did this, I hooked it up to the connections under the hood and when I returned the battery was dead.  Did I hook it up incorrectly or should I hook it up directly to the batter in the trunk?

You must have hooked it up incorrectly because those connections go directly to the battery.  I sometimes have trouble getting the battery charger clips to stay connected to the positive terminal.

When you were out of town were you using the app to check on the car?  When the app accesses the car there is a momentary spike load on the battery that is in excess of 10 amps.  I use a standard battery charger that has an automatic maintenance mode so that if the battery needs more than a trickle it can take care of it.

Won't periodic Go Times with no HVAC throughout the course of your trip cause the car to wake up and charge the 12V? Remote starting the car using the MFM app while plugged in shouldn't drain the battery or start the ICE (depending on your remote start settings) and remote starting DOES turn on the DCDC converter to charge the 12V battery.
