New 2015 Fusion Energi

Hello Everyone,

I live in the Phoenix Arizona area and got tired of watching cars zip by me in the HOV (car pool) lane, so I finally did some research and to my surprise found that there was a car that qualified for the HOV lane that doesn't look ridiculous (Prius, Leaf, etc.).  Next thing I knew, I was at the dealership filling out an application for an Energi!!  I never thought I'd be excited to drive a slow car (Rousch Mustang was the same price)!  And now my HOV plates are on their way!  I'm almost embarrassed to say that I'm excited. :)

My interests as of this point are iPhone/iPad apps, public charging information, and sound system upgrades.  I found an outlet at work but am getting flack from the management for using it, so I'll probably get on the public charging bandwagon really soon.  I'm also hoping that the MyFord Mobile app will get some needed attention.  I don't know how it's on Android, but it's not ready for primetime on iOS.  But I'll save all this stuff for the appropriate threads.

Summer is coming up here in Phoenix so it's going to get really hot (110+ degrees).  I'll have a good idea how efficient my car is in "normal" weather before the yearly meltdown rolls in, and will be able to (unfortunately) provide feedback regarding the Energi operating in extreme heat conditions all too soon.

I have the Titanium edition, not because that's what I wanted, but because that's all I could get without ordering a custom one from the factory.  The HOV plate program is very limited, so I didn't want to take the chance of there not being any HOV permits left if I had to wait two months for shipment of the base model I wanted.  However, now that I'm driving it, I'm glad I got it.  I'm sure that will all change when I make that first car payment!

I look forward to lots of good information from this forum, and I hope I can be as much of a help to others.

Cheers!!

Brian

Welcome, Brian. I second the tinting of the windows idea. As dark as possible and make certain the film blocks the heat. Ask Murphy (Moderator) for help and I think he will be able to lead you in the right direction for the best bang for your buck.

I live in Tucson and you have at least one other Forum Member that lives in Phoenix. I have a 2013 model and still get excited about driving the car.

It's not nearly as hot here as in Phoenix but we still reach between 100 and 110 degrees, mid summer. It's just way cooler at night here than where you are, because we are at a higher elevation.

Enjoy your ride, brother, your pride of ownership will, hopefully, exceed your need for speed.

I live in SoCal, but I've not yet tinted the windows. Over here in CA it is legal only to tint the rear windows. One thing I actually like is that with the clear windows there is enough UV getting through that I don't need sunglasses - my normal glasses darken enough so that the work well as sun glasses. Also, I like the visibility of the windows being clear - goes well with the Pano roof.

I realize that the Fusion does not have the huge windows of the C-Max. I might feel different if I had a fusion Energi. But I found the fusion a bit constraining in entry/exit/headroom.

Welcome, congrats on your purchase!

Of course, I would also tint the windows as dark as possible. Mine are all 5% minus the windshield and the windshield is 35%.

I honestly have no idea how you get away with that.  Do you travel out of state at all and have you been harassed outside of Michigan?

I'm seeing a significant increase in the number of vehicles that have tinted windows, and I know all of these people couldn't have a perscription to allow the tint.  I emailed the MSP about the tinting thing and they maintain that they do enforce the law.  Still, they probably don't stop anybody just for the tint, but that'd be a secondary thing they'd check.

I'd like to have my own windows tinted, but the story of my life dictates that I'd get stopped the very next day for some bogus reason and have to remove it.

I've done my windows like this for 10 years and have never been stopped. I've driven from MI to FL and drive from Lower Michigan to Upper Michigan about every other weekend in the summer. I don't have a prescription, and would assume it's not easy to get one legitimately.

I've been stopped and ticketed for a couple things.  Last one was probably a good 5 years ago (apparently if you enter an intersection while a light is yellow, but turns red before you leave it, that's a red light citation).  But as I mentioned, the tint is probably a tertiary thing.  I get stopped once about every 5 years, so I'm due for another one.  And every time I've been stopped, I've been ticketed.  Every.  Time.  At least I didn't get any points.  Went to the courthouse, and they increased the fine while doing away with the points by changing the infraction to impeding traffic.

If you haven't been stopped at all, then you are either excellent at not getting caught, or you're a significantly better driver than me. :)

In Oregon the only people that get in trouble for tinted windows are the ones going really really dark, which is easy to spot. I don't think they will pull you over for it, just add it on top of some other infraction, or use it as an excuse to pull you over.

On sedans we get tint our rear windows to 25-30%? but CAN'T tint the front windows (not windshield just driver/passenger window). The crazy thing is that in SUVs, trucks, and vans you ARE allowed to tint front windows. So I had my fronts tinted to legal level (the 25-30%) and had the back windows tinted 1 shade darker to better protect my  infant and toddler. I was pulled over and the cop didn't say anything about it, because it doesn't look worse then you would see on an SUV.
