New 2014 Fusion Energi SE, need some help

Hi everyone, I'm a new Fusion Energi owner. Love the car, got 98mpg on a 50mile roundtrip just the other day on a single charge while zipping by everyone in the HOV lane.

I am having an issue though, when I start getting near 70mph+ which is usually rare, there is an exhaust drone which suddenly comes up and becomes very loud. It doesn't sound like engine noise since that gets drowned out too.

Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks!

The Atkinson cycle engine in your car makes very different sounds than the Otto cycle engine that you are used to.  There is no connection between the accelerator pedal and the engine.  The accelerator pedal tells the computer what you want.  The computer figures out what combination of electric power and engine power is needed to accomplish the task.  There is no correlation between engine RPM and vehicle speed.  The computer tries to keep the engine RPM at its most efficient point.

Because of the intake valve timing there is exhaust blow back into the intake manifold.  There is a resonance chamber connected to the intake that usually dampens the sound this makes.

Doesn't your Fusion have the Active Noise Suppression? The C-Max Energi does. It is supposed to cancel out those sort of noises.
