Any way to prevent the double honk?

One of the criticisms I have of the Cadillac ELR and newer Chevrolet Volts is that they triple-honk loudly when the driver exits the running vehicle with the keyfob and shuts the driver door. When the car is running and no keyfob is inside the car, opening and closing the trunk also elicits the triple honk.

On my test drive, I tried this in the 2016 Ford Fusion Energi Titanium and discovered it had a similarly obnoxious honk - but a double-honk instead of a triple-honk. However, opening/closing the trunk doesn't set it off.

After the test drive, the salesperson checked with the dealership's technical guru, and he said that one could leave the keyfob in the car and lock the door with the numerical keypad, effectively disabling the double-honk and still securing the vehicle (aside from a criminal breaking the window, of course). But I didn't have an opportunity to test this.

Can anyone confirm that this works? I'd love to be able to just leave the keyfob in the car, lock/unlock the door with the numerical keypad along the B pillar, and never hear that double honk.

Thanks!

My Ford Edge had the keypad on the door and used the IA push button start system.  I hid a FOB inside the car, and always locked the car when leaving by using the keypad.  The doors would not lock in any other way if the FOB was left inside the car.

I could get into the car by using the keypad or a second FOB.  I always used the keypad because I did not want to carry the FOB with me.

that's the reason I left it hidden in the car.

If the car is left unlocked, someone could get in and start the car since the FOB is inside.  If the doors are locked and entry is made without using the keypad code, the car will not start.  I believe the alarm will sound (horn honks) and the system knows that the car was not entered correctly.  Even with the FOB present, the car will not start.

This is what I had read on various Ford forums, and why I always left the FOB inside the car but made sure I locked and unlocked it using the keypad.

I believe the Tech Guru is incorrect.  The minute you shut the door with the car running and the FOB inside it's going to honk.  True you can then lock the car with the key pad but that's not the solution you are looking for.

And for me, I love the Intelligent Access feature you get with having the FOB in your pocket.  To be able to just walk up to the car, grab the door handle and have it unlock is just too cool.  No fumbling for the FOB in your pocket.
