Blastphemy Posted May 24, 2015 at 02:50 AM Report Share Posted May 24, 2015 at 02:50 AM To preface my question, I refer you first to this post regarding the Cadillac ELR's reverse camera: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-elr-forum/477761-79k-elr-reverse-camera-vs-50k.html The ELR has two problems with its reverse camera. (1) The image at night is blurry and dark; (2) When the vehicle is put into reverse, the camera screen does not automatically adjust to full brightness when the displays have been dimmed for nighttime. Does the Fusion Energi have any reverse camera image problems like this at night? Can anyone post a picture showing how the camera image looks at night or in a dark garage? Thank you! Doug0716 Posted May 24, 2015 at 03:41 AM Report Share Posted May 24, 2015 at 03:41 AM I can't help you out with the requested pictures but I can tell you that the reverse camera in this car preforms really well in this car, compared to my 2012 Kia Sorento and 2006 Mercedes CLS that I had before it.Also that post that you linked to you can't view the pictures without registering so it would be helpful if you just re-uploaded them here. Blastphemy Posted May 24, 2015 at 04:13 AM Author Report Share Posted May 24, 2015 at 04:13 AM (edited) that post that you linked to you can't view the pictures without registering so it would be helpful if you just re-uploaded them here. I tried to link directly to the images in this response, but had the same problem. So mods feel free to just delete this response post if you want. Hybridbear Posted May 24, 2015 at 06:29 PM Report Share Posted May 24, 2015 at 06:29 PM Are you able to upload the pics to DropBox or PhotoBucket or directly to this Forum so that we can see the comparison? The Ford back up camera seems to work quite well. We've had times backing up in the country where the only light is from our lights and the camera works pretty well. The time we find it can be hard to see is when the sun is at a low angle were the car has dimmed the dash displays because of a lack of light but then the sun angle can make the camera almost impossible to see anything in. Blastphemy Posted May 24, 2015 at 07:52 PM Author Report Share Posted May 24, 2015 at 07:52 PM (edited) Here are the photos. But I couldn't figure out how to sort them in the correct order when inserting as attachments. D'oh! Photo #1: ELR camera at night Photo #2: ELR camera in dark garage with dimming all the way down Photo #3: ELR camera in dark garage with dimming all the way up Photo #4: Rav4 EV camera at night Photo #5: Rav4 EV camera in dark garage The original post was: Here's a comparison of my ELR's reverse camera at night (first image) to my Toyota Rav4 EV's reverse camera (second image) under the exact same conditions, just different sides of the garage: PHOTO 1PHOTO 4 For comparison, here's the Rav4 EV's camera this morning, then the ELR's camera with the Instrument Panel Illumination Control Thumbwheel all the way down, and then the ELR's camera with the illumination thumbwheel all the way up. As you can see, if the ELR would just default to full illumination (ignoring the thumbwheel setting), it rivals the Rav4 EV's camera for this comparison. PHOTO 5PHOTO 2PHOTO 3 That's one of the biggest problems with this camera system in both the Volt and ELR: the screen doesn't adjust the brightness and contrast independently of the illumination thumbwheel and day/night mode like many other cars up and down the price range do. expresspotato Posted May 25, 2015 at 01:55 AM Report Share Posted May 25, 2015 at 01:55 AM The Fusion's backup camera performs excellently in low light situations. Its still bright and easy to see things behind the car / where you're going. Hybridbear
Russael Posted May 25, 2015 at 02:57 AM Report Share Posted May 25, 2015 at 02:57 AM It also helps that the car has bright reverse lights. :) Hybridbear
Blastphemy Posted May 31, 2015 at 04:46 PM Author Report Share Posted May 31, 2015 at 04:46 PM Here's a comparison of the reverse camera on my 2014 ELR (a $76k car) to my 2015 Ford Fusion Energi Titanium (a $37k car) under the exact same conditions:2014 Cadillac ELR: 2015 Ford Fusion Energi Titanium: You were all 100% correct about the quality of the Fusion's reverse camera! Griff Posted June 20, 2015 at 02:33 PM Report Share Posted June 20, 2015 at 02:33 PM I know I'm a little late to this discussion, but I wanted to add something. I'm fairly certain that the Energy uses an infrared sensor on the camera. When I'm backing up in a dark location, the screen has the telltale greenish image that is much brighter than you'd expect. Since the back up lights are not green and the image is so bright, I'm thinking that is the case. Hybridbear
keloj Posted June 2, 2023 at 07:40 AM Report Share Posted June 2, 2023 at 07:40 AM reverse camera can vary depending on several factors, including the camera's quality, resolution, low-light sensitivity, and the overall design and implementation by the manufacturer On 5/24/2015 at 7:50 AM, Blastphemy said: To preface my question, I refer you first to this post regarding the Cadillac ELR's reverse camera: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-elr-forum/477761-79k-elr-reverse-camera-vs-50k.html The ELR has two problems with its reverse camera.
