Accident this morning

Driving into work this morning. Accelerating away from a stop sign. Guy backing out of his drive way at the first stop sign backs into me. Tiny scuff on his bumper and my paint on his trailer hitch. His trailer hitch took the impact.

My rear passenger side door, that quarter panel, the bumper, and maybe trunk lid and wheel well liner will need replacing.

That stinks!! I hope that his insurance will cover all the damage. I don't know about Ontario, but in MN the insurance companies are required to pay for OEM parts & are required to pay for you to take your car to any body shop you want. Thus we had our Focus Electric fixed by a Ford dealer with a body shop the two times we were rear-ended. It was more expensive than if we had taken the car to the body shop recommended by the insurance of the person who hit us each time, but their insurance company had to pay anyway.

To add to what Hybridbear stated, the insurance company will attempt to get you to take it to their place by telling you they offer a "lifetime warranty" for all work done at their shop.  Basically if the paint starts to chip/fade/whatever they'll fix it. Verify your shop has a similiar policy because usually if they repair a bumper the paint will often crack when the factory paint wouldn't have. (They don't usually prep it as well as a factory paint job, even if they have to use "OEM" parts, they don't have to be new parts.)

Bummer, and funny since just this morning I had a lady back out of her driveway and never even look over to see if there was any other cars coming. I nearly blew my horn, but was able to stop safely back away from her and just shake my head for being completely oblivious.

I had the same thing happen about a week ago... numnut FLEW out of the driveway in reverse right in front of me.  Glad they missed.

The insurance company wanted to use a Pontiac dealership. I called a local ford dealer, the insurance Co isn't going to pay to have it towed all over, they didn't have a body shop but recommended the one they use for their warrantied body work.

It's been sitting there a week and half with no estimate. I did finally get him to plug it in to charge it back to 65% though.
