We, well mostly my wife, picked up our/her Energi last week, great car. She had a 2012 Focus Electric and we loved the car but the buyout price was too high. We had rare occasions of range anxity with it since we had another car for driving out of town. So that is one nice thing about the Energi. Wish it went a bit further on electric but a lot of our driving is local so would be all electric then. We do expect to take some longer road trips so I do not expect much benifit from electric on those trips. I am trying to figure out optimal energy use for local and long distance.

I find the electric helps tremendously on longer trips.  In NM, CO and AZ where we mostly drive, we use only the electric when driving through towns on the way (I drive exclusively secondary US and state highways when possible, about 90 percent of the time) and use hybrid on anything over 45 MPH.  We usually average high 50's to low 60's on 3 to 6 hundred mile trips.  Watch your technique (braking, acc, climate, deceleration etc) and I think you will be very pleasantly surprised.   We have never had to pay for charging at motels.  I usually ask if we can run our extension cord to a battery charger on the car .... :)

Have fun!

I am retired

Besides, these cars (a hybrid before this one) has "enlightened" me to a whole new approach of traveling.  There is actually scenery out there, it is not just the big ass of a semi truck in front LOL.

We even drive the Corvettes on the back roads ....  :2thumbs:

Well, if you are  not in a hurry, sure, the scenery is great. I love tooling around northern NM looking at the Native American sites.

But when we are heading to visit my daughter? No, the moonscape between Needles CA and Kingman is just too much, even at 75 MPH.

I hear that! We spend a lot of time in Big Bear California.  We usually drive from southern NM Socorro on US 60 to 260 on the Mogollon Rim to Parker, cross the river and then endure the Parker to 29 Palms route.  It has it's place, kinda makes me appreciate NM LOL.  We find it usually adds an hour to a days drive, and almost cuts in half the fuel usage.

Try it sometime grasshopper, you might get "enlightened"   :victory: :D

When I retire, I intend to travel and take my time. But for the moment, time is of the essence. But there is no doubt, for the hybrid secondary roads maximize MPG.

Parker to 29 Palms, the 'empty quarter', I used to drive my Ford Taurus SHO 100+MPH there because I could. Went 20-30 minutes without seeing a car in either direction, unusal in CA. When I want to go slow I take our Jeep and go off road a bit, definitely not in a hurry then.

The best 'not in a hurry' route is Oatman to Kingman, amazing road, I drive it when i can and feel "The Grapes Of Wrath' Route 66 experience.
