Hello all. New user here. So I have been looking at the Fusion Energis as of late. I have a 8.8 Kw solar system on my house and I am ready to move on to some sort of plug in hybrid. It will be a commuter care mostly and given the distant I travel in an average day I think its a good choice for me.

I currently have 2 diesel vehicles and I make a lot of fuel for those , but with three kids and less time I need something less time consuming. Plus they are not good options in the winter here. Plus Im not 21 anymore and the creature comforts seems to be more and more important. Love my 84 Benz but shes not very comfy.

Hoping to learn lots and make an informed decisions. Looks like there are some deals to be had out there right now too.

Peace

Probably will have to buy used or maybe lease. Dont think I can afford a new one.

Welcome!

I'll start off with a warning: The Fusion Energi is a great gateway drug - No range anxiety, but once you experience electric driving you'll never want to go back!

Financially, used is always good, but in your calculations, keep in mind that you'll spend less "fueling" the Energi. It makes my electric bill go up about $20/month, but my gas bill went down $140/month compared to my last car (which still got a respectable 28 mpg). That makes my monthly payment easier to swallow (I leased a new one).

If you have a commute that's maybe 15 miles or less round trip, you'll rarely use any gas even in the winter*. If you can plug it in at work (I can), double that. During the summer, you'll get better range and won't have to use the HVAC much so your electric range will be longer. I usually get around 25 miles in the summer and 18 in the winter if I'm not using the heat here in Wisconsin. By using preconditioning (where the car uses electricity from the plug to heat/cool the cabin before you leave) and the heated/cooled seats and heated steering wheel, I'm able to avoid energy-sucking HVAC usage quite well.

Be aware that in winter, electric range goes down significantly. ALL cars are less efficient in the winter: Cold tires and grease leads to higher rolling resistance, and the thicker air creates more aerodynamic drag. For electric cars, it's even worse as the cold battery will not be able to store or put out as much energy as it can in warmer weather and you have to use some of the energy you have left to heat the cabin since you don't have all the waste heat from an internal combustion engine to use. (Of course, the ICE will generate that waste heat in the summer too!) Using Go times and the Value Charge profiles to have the car finish charging just as you leave may be helpful as the battery will be warmed somewhat by the charging process.

Hope this helps, and welcome again! I hope you enjoy the Fusion Energi as much as I do.
