Judith Posted January 18, 2017 at 01:45 AM Report Share Posted January 18, 2017 at 01:45 AM Hi Everyone - I just bought my first hybrid plug-in, the 2017 ford fusion energi. So far I am loving the smooth and quiet ride. I do want to make sure though that the new battery is fully functioning. I understand that the range is around 21 miles and that works perfectly with my 18 mile daily commute. I have also learned from reading that the mileage varies, depending on temperature, driving habits and what in cabin controls are being used such as heat etc. Where I am perplexed is the mileage shown after I have fully charged the battery. On the dash it shows the range in 2 numbers. One is the amount of miles expected via gas and then a second number in blue that shows the range available for EV. I would have expected it to say 21 and then depending on the above would affect how quick those miles drain. But mine after a full charge says 15 miles. So far after a week of ownership I have made it round trip once on just electric but that was mainly due to the regenerative miles returned since I live on a hill. My commute is mainly surface streets with 2 miles of highway (mostly slow due to commute traffic). It has been cold lately for California but that is still in low 40s at night. Could that impact how much charge the battery can handle? I just want to make sure while it is new that I address any issues right in the beginning. Thanks for your feedback. bdginmo Posted January 18, 2017 at 02:39 AM Report Share Posted January 18, 2017 at 02:39 AM You're probably fine. The EV range is dynamically calculated based on your previous trips. Low 40's will probably cut your EV range a bit. The range isn't a very good metric for diagnosing the operation of the vehicle because it's influenced by so many factors. Start with a full charge, reset one of the trip meters, and drive until the HVB has been depleted to hybrid mode. Once the switch to hybrid mode occurs immediately note the kwh usage on the trip display. Let us know what you get.
