Do I misunderstand value charge?

I've noticed something on value charge that I assumed worked differently.  If I put in start at 3:00am and finish at 6:00am, it completely ignores the 3:00am and instead starts charging whenever it thinks it needs to in order to reach 100% by 6:00am.  I ONLY WANT IT TO CHARGE FOR 3 HOURS so as to keep the battery under 80%.  Why does it do this?  Is this "intended functionality"?  I'm not using MFM if that makes any difference, only on-screen default profile.

Do you have GO times set up?  I found this in the manual:

NOTE: harging to 100% by your next GO time will always be the priority.  When value charge is selected, charging outside of off-peak times may be necessary in order to be fully charged by  your GO time.

Also, when you first plug in the vehcicle, regardless of charge settings or GO times, the car will begin to charge until 10% charge is achieved.  However in my experience, it charges to 20% before shutting off.

Another question... why would you want to keep the battery at less than 80%?

In reading many other threads on this site, it has become apparent to me that charging to 100% (and especially keeping it at 100%) does damage to the battery and reduces capacity.  I only need 80% for my commute, so I only want to charge to 80% to improve my battery life.

A number of people on this site have lost 30% or more of their capacity in only a couple years.  The common threads for those people seem to be:

- Multiple charges per day

- Keeping battery at 100% for long periods

- High temperatures when charging or driving

- Lots of freeway EV use (high discharge rate)
