About Ben Bruce

  1. Final Update. Car is working normally now. On the way to the dealer I had to fill up with gas. After I filled up I still got the "running in gas mode, blah blah blah..." message. after driving on the freeway for several miles the EV started working. It seems the counter/calendar for the fresh fuel calculator got messed up when the 12V battery died. It took 2 tanks of gas for it to reset or so it seems. Car is working normal again. I cancelled the appointment and assume all is well for now. What a strange car this is sometimes. Ben
  2. Tried disconnecting the 12V battery last night for about an hour. No change. Looks like I am off to the dealer to see what they have to offer. Seems strange that a dead 12V battery would cause such a problem? Ben
  3. Hi All... Gas is fresh. I fill up every 8 days due to my commute. Not cold. Bay area of northern California, usually in the 50 to 80 degree range. I hooked up a scanner last night and no codes. I will try disconnecting the battery tonight and see if that does it. The car does shut the ICE off at stops and restarts but does not use the HVB. It drives like a standard hybrid with a very heavy not used battery on board. I'll give another day and then will have to make an appointment at the dealer. Ben
  4. Yes bdginmo, the EV+Now and EV+Later are both X'd out. The HVB is fully charged and the ICE runs all the time. I will check for codes tonight when I get home. Should have thought about that, thanks for the suggestion. Ben
  5. Thanks for the responses. The HVB is fully charged. 2 days driving 40 miles each way to work. ICE is the only choice given (no EV now or EV later option available) The oil was changed last month and reset (no pop oil change reminders) Everything else is working normally after the new 12 volt battery was installed. I hate to take it into Ford as the car is now out of warranty. Hoping it is a reset button somewhere or something easy that I can do. Ben
  6. The 12 volt battery died on my 2014 Fusion Energi Titanium 2 days ago. I replaced it with a new battery and now the car will only run with the gas engine. When I press the Ev now button the message says that mode is not available. Any ideas how to reset this car so it runs as a proper plug in hybrid? Ben
  7. My problem has finally been solved. I took the trunk apart and bolstered the amplifier, removed trunk springs and on and on. Nothing solved the anoying rattle. I finally gave up. At 52K miles I noticed one of my front tires was wearing and needed to be replaced. Not wanting to replace just one, I replaced all 4. Upon inspection I noticed the left rear tire was out of round due to uneven tread wear. 4 new tires and the rattle is gone, car rides smoother (quieter). Very happy with the car again. Problem was Me, I never rotated the tires and caused the uneven tread wear. Spent a lot of time and frustration chasing a ghost that was never there. The out of round tire was causing a harmonic vibration that caused something to rattle in the car (still think it was coming from the trunk area). Ben
  8. Found the problem. It was an inspection sticker that was dropping down just above the camera. When I would wash the car it got pushed up into the body seem just above the camera. Then at random times it would drop down just enough to cover part of the camera lenses. When the lenses started to get normal dirty combined with the partial sticker blockage it would fail. Removed the sticker and all is right with the world. Root Cause is Ford quality control or maybe not put a sticker above the camera that will lose its holding power and cause this issue. Sticker was plain white (glue side) and solid red on the other side, about 1/2" X 1/2" Ben
  9. it's a 2014. Not sure how to check current MFT SYNC and is this something that I need to update manually or does it happen automatically? Loose fuse seems unlikely but I will check. Thanks for the feedback. Ben
  10. When I put it in reverse I get a black screen and after a few seconds a message pops up that says Camera unavailable at this time, contact Ford Service (not exact text). This happens for a day or two every time I put it in reverse and then it will work fine for several days. Been going back and forth without any predictability. Anyone else have a problem like this? Ben
  11. Mine started doing this rattle also at around 40K miles. It is driving me nuts. I have tried different things around the torsion bars on the trunk hinge. Sometimes I think it is working but it always comes back. Has anyone tried removing the trunk torsion springs? I would like to try that next and see if it stops the noise. If it does then I will know 100% it is the springs. I have gone from liking this car to absolutely hating it because of this noise. My family won't ride in it anymore. I have to get this figured out and fixed soon. Ben
  12. In California, motorcyclist split lane at all speeds. Legal or not. I figure it is better to give them room to avoid the hassle of dealing with a crash. It is not that I leave the lane it is just that I give them more room to pass. I believe the LKA is seeing the line that I am close to and tries to steer me away from it and back into the motorcycle that it does not see. It has only caught me by surprise a couple of times but feels like it could cause an accident someday. I know I can turn it off or adjust its sensitivity. My intent was to help others to be aware of a potential situation and maybe Ford will read this and offer an update in the future? Ben
  13. I have a real conceI have a real concern when using the lane minder feature when Motorcycles are splitting lanes. My practice is to move to the left when I see them approaching from behind. On several occasions it has happened that as I move to the left the lane minder sees a guard rail or some obstacle and tries to steer me back to the right at the same time as a Motorcycle is passing me while spitting lanes. I am afraid that one of these days a Ford Fusion is going to take out a motorcyclist because of this “feature”. I have warned all my friends that ride, to be cautious around Fusions as the car is a little “quirky” some times and may move towards them as they spilt lanes. Ben
  14. Ill keep looking for a way to reproduce this. So far it seems random. Tried so far: slow down and or wait until trying again have a different user try (different hands) Try different door(s) move FOB from pocket to other locations around door handle learned from day one about not having the hand on the lock at the same time as trying to un lock once it is in this state, we have never been able to unlock the door with any of the techniques from above. have to resort to another method. Oh well, maybe it is just me that this happens to. Ben
  15. I am also having an issue with the "un lock" not working when I grab the door handle. It works perfect most of the time but maybe once every 30-50 times it wont un lock. I have tried to move the FOB to different positions around the car and door handle and nothing works. Of course there are multiple ways to get in and I know all of them. It just always frustrates me when the random not working event happens. Has anyone figured out the scenario that causes this? Ben
