  1. All you need is the spacers from Mc Alister listed in the thread and the bolts. I have a few bolts left as they are hardest thing to find) Just remove the 2 rear bolts and insert the spacers and use the new longer bolts . Problem solved. The fabricated ones I used that see above (a forum member made me a set - he said was not easy) did not appear to add any more strength as the extensions he used were hollow and not solid. The spacers and bolt do the trick,
  2. You need to look at the original post rom May 2013 which describes the process in detail. The key part is the 2 automotive grade bolts which are hard to get for the average consumer. I had to buy a box and still a few left over. The 2nd piece is the spacers. I ordered the spacers here: http://www.mcmaster....spacers/=n6j3uo The part number is 92415A466 . You need 2 @ 13.29 each. You can order online and takes about  days. This company is great and very helpful.
  3. Yes, I got my check via FedEx today. I have 11K miles on my 2013 and 72.4 overall MPG for all those miles and have zero to complain about as far as mileage goes.
  4. thanks Guys - I'll try the Notifications setting under iPhone Bluetooth and see what happens when a text comes in. I also seem to remember that it took a day or 2 for it to start working on the S4 . BTW - also forgot to add to my "The Good News" section for the original thread topic. - HOV lane sticker - Maryland just updated their support with new stickers expiring in 2017 - nice !!
  5. Eric, great info the thread. A few thoughts on my end. The Good news - excellent forum group and great source for a grow discussion on various topics. - I usually travel 28 miles each way each day with a charge on both sides (that helps) and my average combined MPG is 74.5 for the life of the car which is currently 6780 miles since June 2013. This is INCREDIBLE no matter how you look it for a comfortable 5 seater car. - I did get excellent mileage on a 6 hour trip through the Virginia mountains with no charge available other than my start. 44 MPG was not bad with 4 people in the car. - Think about adding a small trailer hitch (see my thread & picture) as it will give a little relief on the trunk space issue . They are cheap and will give the ability to use a small platform, light weight trailer , bike rack, or Home Depot loaner trailer , i.e. when you need more room coming home from the hardware store. Note, I would not suggest towing a Jetski, I'm sure some idiot will do that and back the car in the water to unload it. Should make a great YouTube video of the day - The install of the hitch & wiring (T-Conenctors) was a piece of cake. - Take advantage of your rebates and do not let the dealer "factor it into the over all price" - it's your money . In case 3895.00 Federal (need to file this year) , 2000.00 back from the State (this can change as my state is now 600.00) I got the check in 2 month - real money. Basically your taxes back on the car. 1500.00 rebate back on Level 2 charger, 500.00 incentive from Power company on tracking usage - All of these rebate bring the cost way down and basically allow you to "play" with the idea of an electric car. These will all go away soon as it catches on. I paid $40,000.00 on the road price for an SE with several options and when you factor in the rebates , I paid about 33K ish once you factor in the 1500.00 on the charger. Very comparable price to any 5 seater comfortable car. - Ford Sync overall is very impressive and easy to update via the My Ford Sync site using a USB flash drive (in the arm rest glove box) - HiRes Dash gauges are excellent - Remote start & heat/cool and smart phone apps - priceless . Your car can also you texts as it charges. Lastly, on the good - so far after 6 months a solid car. I'm totally impressed with the "New Ford" . I'm glad I canceled my Tesla as I decided it needed more "baking time" before spending 80+K and the Fusion was a perfect fit for now. The Bad (but totally livable) - a few really stupid design choices in the car. (1) Gas release button on the center console gets hit all the time (2) Passenger seat is horrible for many people as it has no height adjustment. Some of us have fix we did on our own (see threads) , (3) If you have the non Bose stereo, the seat warmers will turn on no matter what the temp outside is (WHY?) . This happens when you simply turn up the volume on the stereo and your hand or fingers hit the touch button on the heater controls . They are way to sensitive . I've gotten used to it - but again bad design choices - iPhone does not support reading texts but the Samsung S4 works great at reading text and sending text via voice. iPhone 4/5 playlist work perfect but Samsung S4 (android in general) playlist not supported if music is on the SD card, Windows Phone works horrible and not very useable - I've spent days & hours trying to get a working solution . The last 2 updates to Ford Sync - no help . All in all works great , adding text for iOS support would be excellent - if you live in a cold area the heater works from the engine therefore you need to use gas - I hate this . No way around this that I can see. Would be great to have electric heat. - Titanium option would have been nice in a lighter interior color. Black was the only choice for me so I had to settle on the SE model with a few options. my 2 cents, DAVE
  6. This is a followup forum thread to my original post on a Possible Seat Height Fix for the 2013 Fusion. This fix might also work on the 2014 , since I have a 2013 , a 2014 owner would need to chime in to confirm. As a recap of the issue - there are many complaints from 2013 Fusion owners about the lack of a height adjustment of the passenger seat. The default configuration only seems to really serve someone over six feet in height. I've talked to several local dealers (we have 4) and all told me that they gets complaints all the time and there is no fix short of using booster seat. By simply raising the rear of the passenger seat 1.5 inches seems to solve the issue for many. My older thread has a simple solution using a steel spacer and 3" automotive bolt which solves the issue but left a few people concerned about a front collision and seat not being secured. I met up in person with a forum member (Martin) who needed a few of the 3" bolts I had for his Fusion and we discussed the issue. Martin came up with a simple design that extends the Nipple from the rear of rail of the passenger seat. (BTW - I still have a few bolts left for sale as I had to buy a case of them - email me if you need a set 3dadd.ebay@gmail.com) Once you remove the 2 rear Star bolts (you can get the socket from Home Depot) , you can tilt the seat slight forward and look at the mounting. You will see how these pieces fit into place to create the extension. The new steel riser has 2 holes with the front most hole being used both as a receptacle for the seat rail and the extension (look at photo) . I did find it odd that the right side was oval shaped and the left was round. This must be to allow a little "wiggle room when installing the side and making final adjustments. The rail extension is round on both sides . The fit was perfect and seems to be a logical approach and I thought I'd share the results - kinda cool when forum members work on ideas together.. For the Ford Forum moderators - please feel free to pass this info onto Ford engineering. I think everyone here would love a simple fix like this from Ford to this issue thanks - hope this gets people thinking a bit more on the issue.. DAVE

Starting a new thread with a NEW IDEA thanks to another forum member (Martin) who made (machined) a set of new risers with the idea of adding a "Little More Peace of Mind" in case of frontal collision concern raised by Cricket36. See new thread . NEW possible Seat height fix for Fusion 2013 (might also apply to the 2014 - not sure) I will say it's cool when forum members get together to share ideas. Hopefully our Ford Forum moderators will forward the complaint to Ford engineering. This new idea seems fairly straight forward and would solve this silly issue of the passenger seat being too low and uncomfortable.
  8. Just another update that the Leviton 240 volt charger from Amazon (Model EVB32-5ML) has been flawless since Leviton replaced it in May 2013 (today is Jan 6th 2014)
  9. Ok - I've been experimenting with this over the weekend using some of the comments in the thread. These steps as posted by SD Driver are a good start: 1: turn AC off (physical button) 2: Touch screen/climate. Notice that the vent position has a white box around it (as does the fan speed). Touch a vent position (white box goes away - no longer auto). 3: Set the fan speed (via touch screen). The white box goes away (no longer auto). 4: switch back to the power display. The climate should now show no draw. 5: If it does show a draw , it might be the heat as in my case today . The temp was set to 72 and it was 68 outside. I simply set the temp to 65 and since Auto is now off, it will not turn on the heater. If the heater comes on , you will notice the circle on the Power Display that shows the Climate System fill in to a solid. This only draws a small amount. If the circle has a giant "Halo" around it , then the compressor is on and you loose about 5 miles plug-in miles. I find the system a more tricky than it needs to be as it's always fighting you to keep the compressor on. It must have a series of moisture sensors making sure the windows stay clear. Hope this helps you guys safe a few E-miles...
  10. For the record, I agree 100% that you need to be aware of your driving route, patterns, and speeds as discussed in some of the other topic in the forum . I too use the EV Later option for when I know I'll be stuck in slow traffic and for nearly 7,000 miles I've average over 75 MPG which includes a lot of highway driving. Another tip is to let the car manage your highway speeds using the intelligent Cruise Control system. I watch it closely and does a decent job. NOW FOR MY ISSUE: I'm not sure if it's by design or a flaw but I can't seem to use my fans in the cabin to keep air moving without the AC compressor coming on. While the AC light is not on , the AC compressor is clearly on. Steps to repeat: 1. Press the Fan buttons (up/down) to turn on fan to lowest speed 2. Make sure that Auto is not on (press Fan buttons should turn off Auto) 3. Make sure that the AC light is off In my car, while the AC light is clearly out, you can tell it's still on as the temp outside is warmer and air flowing in the car is still cooled - even after long periods. Why does this matter? if you turn off all power (use the Power button) to the cabin temp, your mileage range will usually increase by 5 or more miles. I've actually gotten a range of 25-28 miles a few times by riding with the windows open and the Power button "off". The extra few miles for me would make a huge difference in many of my commutes as being about to run on 100% plug-in. Can anyone else confirm that they see the same behavior with their cabin temp and not being able to just have air flowing in the cabin? RECAP: it appears to make no difference whether the AC light is on or off - The AC/Compressor is always on if the ventilation fan is running.

  12. it only took about an hour with 2 people to get the hitch installed. The fish wire made it pretty easy. The electrical took about 30 minutes. Most of that time was just being careful with the removing the tail lights and running the T connector. Yes - I'm in Annapolis...

    Howdy from MD

    Make sure you fill out your MD paperwork for rebate and HOV sticker. The MVA MD forms are back on line now and when the funds are gone that's it for 2013. Once filled out, a quick trip to Glen Burnie DMV HQ (up stairs) will get things rolling quickly. Got my rebate and HOV in a few weeks.
