Davidoo Posted September 6, 2017 at 11:37 PM Report Share Posted September 6, 2017 at 11:37 PM All cars have some type of door that opens and closes to outside air when certain selections are made in the climate control system, such as the recirculate settings on AC, versus having fresh air come in. I hadn't noticed until recently that whenever I shut the car off, the door either opens or closes every single time, and makes a creaking/squeaky rubber on rubber or plastic noise. It seems to be getting louder. Even if I don't have the climate control on at all, when I start the car I hear it, and when I push the button to turn off the car I hear it. So, I went to the dealer today at lunch which is right by my office. I had a technician sit in the passenger seat to hear the creaking/squeaking noise. Right away he said, "sure, I hear it. That is the door opening to allow air in when the vehicle is turned off. It is now required by federal regulation to do this whenever the vehicle is off." I told him I don't remember it being that loud before and he said they all sound like that. It just worries me because I had another vehicle (a Jaguar) that started making this noise, and after a few months, it quit working altogether and the recirculate function on the dash control wouldn't work at all. You can tell when you have your air on high and turn the recirc feature on the air will usually get a lot louder when the door opens to pull the air from inside the car, rather than from outside. Well, then they wanted over a thousand dollars to take the whole dash off to fix this little plastic door. At least I have the extended warranty on my FFE to 100,000. Just wondering if anyone else has a 2017 Energi, or other recent year, and can check if they hear this vent door opening and closing when they turn the car on/off. It is best to try it when the climate system is off so there is no air noise going on. Can anyone else hear this?
