My Ford Mobile app no longer connects to the car. Cannot monitor or pre-condition anymore. Help ! ! !

Hello,

My app will no longer work, it did this several months ago and I had to delete the car and re-do it a few times. Lately it's been working intermittently but then stopped working. I did a master reset from the car and also deleted the app and deleted the car.

It worked when I did this several months ago but not anymore. When it gets to the screen to conform from the car's screen nothing happens. I've cancelled the conformation and re-did it but still nothing happens. I have the correct VIN entered.

I called the Ford 800 number and they said it may be software or firmware. They said I am on software version 3.7 and it needs to be updated to 3.10. And the firmware is on 1.4.3 and it needs to be on 1.4.6.

She said I would have to go to the dealer and pay for these. It just doesn't seem right that I bought my car almost 3yrs ago with the ability to precondition the car and I can no longer do it and if I want to then I have to pay for it.

After it stopped working several days ago, I set a GO time for 6am but it did nothing and when I got to work I noticed it started the car at 7. I have the correct time set. But when I used to get a text notification that the car was charged it was always off an hour.

Then last night I tried to set the GO time and no it will not let me, nothing happens when I tap the ON button.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

SORRY, I PLACED THIS IN THE INCORRECT SECTION, BUT I DON'T SEE A DELETE THREAD BUTTON.

Thank you so very much. I changed my battery a few months ago so that will be a easy task. I hope it works.

I have not done any modem recall, I didn't know there was one. I didn't even know there was a recall on the steering wheel bolt until I called the 800 number this morning. They have my correct address, so I don't know why I'm not receiving recall notices.

And I thought this was supposed to be in the Tech thread. But now that I'm asked to disconnect the battery, maybe leave it :)

Whichever you prefer, doesn't bother me either way.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

Thank you very much, I looked in my account and it says one recall but that’s for the steering wheel bolt so maybe this must have been done a while ago and I just don’t remember taking it in to have it done or maybe was done at one of my oil changes or something.

I will disconnect the battery when I get home this evening and see if that resolves the problem.

Disconnecting the negative side of the battery for a few minutes worked. Thank you so much.

Only thing is when I first opened the app is said update failed but I closed it and opened it again and it still said update failed but the lock/unlock was highlighted and I tested those and they worked.

Tried a third time closing the app and restarting and now it updated, hope it stays like this.

Thanks again, I'm a happy camper again.

As far as the software and firmware updates, I have no idea what they're for but if the Sync stays working I think I'll pass on paying to update.

It's working not but still have two "update failed" notifications but after a minute the buttons for start/stop were not grayed out and I was able to start the car with the app.

Also, I did a GO time again for 6:05 AM and when I went into the garage about 5:10 this morning  the car was running. So for some reason it's an hour off.

Same as when I get a notification of the car finishing it's charge, it's always an hour off. All my settings are correct so any insight to what it could be would be great.

You can see from the phone text messages screenshot that the time is off an hour, don't know why.

Thanks

That’s probably it. It does say in both Mountain and US Arizona GMT-7. But Arizona doesn’t have DST.

Also, when I'm setting the GO times, that's from in the car's onscreen menu. Wouldn't that take the time from the car (which is correct) and not info from the app.

I can see the error showing up on my text messages with the fully charged time being off, but the preconditioning GO time I would think would be correct.

It's unclear to me if the car is capable of executing a GO time all by itself.  If it depends on the server for the trigger then that means the server time zone has to be correct.  The car knows nothing about DST.  If you set the clock in the car using the GPS sync button it will be set to standard time.  If DST is in effect you have to bump the hour up by 1 following a GPS clock set.

The GO times are stored in the cell phone modem (TCU) but don't require any communications for them to work. I used GO times for years with the old 2G modem even though there was no AT&T 2G signal here.

I got in the car at 4:30 Arizona time and I bumped up the time to 5:30 then hit the GPS time reset and it went to back 4:30. Does that mean it is correct now, I guess I’ll find out in the morning when I test a precondition. And does it matter if I have auto time zone update on off ?

I'm confused.  Your forum location says that you are in Orange County in the U.S. Pacific Coast region.  Did you move to Arizona?

The GPS time reset sets the car to standard time for your current location as determined by the GPS being locked to at least three satellites.

Auto time zone update on means that as you drive from one time zone to another time zone the clock will automatically change the displayed time.  I don't know how well that can work since the car was not programmed to understand DST.

Sorry, yes I moved to Arizona.

Also, the app is not working much anymore. I’m constantly getting update failed. Sometimes it will still let me start the car but mostly it will not.

I’m going to do the battery disconnect thing again and reboot the modem and see what happens.

I really wish the app would work correctly.

And don’t know if this is normal, but when the app did connect it would always take about 20-30 seconds until it synced with the car. Just seems like a long time to connect to the car.

Another weird thing now with the GO times, I'm guessing the time is correctly set now cause when the car is charged the text it sends me the time stamp is the same time as the current time.

BUT now I just set a GO time for 15 minutes from the current time, when I turned off the car it came back on and started pre-conditioning. I thought maybe it's so close so it started now.

I changed it to another hour from now and same thing happened. I changed it to 3 hours from now and it still came on when I shut off the car. I have no idea why it doing this and also why sometime the app sync update fails and sometimes it works.

The GO time is the time that the preconditioning is to be completed.  If the HVB is not charged to 100% and the car is set to charge now it is going to start charging as soon as it is plugged in.

The car was charged and sitting there silently. No matter what time I set the GO time for, as soon as I turned the car off it came back on and started pre-conditioning.

It’s also intermittent with the syncing when I start the app, sometimes it syncs and sometimes it says update failed. Not sure why it’s doing this.

I want to say someone else had an issue when they kept hitting update over and over again in a short time it would lock up and you would have to do the fuse pull or negative battery disconnect.  I would do another battery disconnect and then don't mess with checking on the app for a few hours and when you do, make sure you are in an area with good cell coverage.

Another question,

Everything is working better except for the pre-conditioning. I have it set for 6:10am and for the last two days I've got out in the garage about 5:30 am and the car is pre-conditioning. When I went in the garage at 4:30 the car was off so I don't know what time it started pre-conditioning. But having it set for 6:10, there's no reason for it to start 45 minutes before that.

The time is correct now as when it's charged and texts me it has the correct time stamp.

What could be the reason it's not pre-conditioning as the correct time ?
