jsamp Posted October 15, 2020 at 04:00 AM Report Share Posted October 15, 2020 at 04:00 AM So the latest word is that it is not a battery supply issue, but rather a battery safety issue that has delayed the Escape PHEV. The article below explains that Ford has had a battery fire issue while charging in Europe with the Kuga PHEV (European version of the Escape). They have delayed intro to the US until they figure out the cause and implement a fix. This is really annoying, at least it will be a 2021, Hope my 259k/8 yr. old CMAX will last that long. Maybe end up with a Hybrid instead. Paul So Paul, I never heard a word from you as to whether you actually took delivery of your Escape PHEV. Did you get it? How is it?
jsamp Posted November 4, 2021 at 06:15 AM Report Share Posted November 4, 2021 at 06:15 AM So interesting findings when I looked into the specs for the Escape PHEV. It seems they are using the same electric motor setup as our Energis (88kW) but paired with a 2.5L Atkinson vs the Fusion has a 2.0L. What I found interesting is that even though the battery is ~double the original 7.6kWh from the Fusion Energi, they are still battery limiting the power output to ~55HP. Seems Ford realized that they were overtaxing the Energi batteries so they kept the limit the same even though the battery is much bigger. Thus, they are loading it much less than on our Fusions. Trying to avoid battery degradation issues is my guess. C rate drops from 5.2 to 2.8 at max acceleration - that's a huge difference! jj2me
