About ClaveMan

  1. A large number of Mexican made Ford Fusions (across the board of models variants) were released with defective batteries in 2017 (a few had bricks of Marijuana where the spare tire goes). There are also drains on the electrical system on the 2017 that are covered under 3 service bulletins you can find on this forum, But forget most of that.. What you really need to focus on is one fact.. For any potentially electric or computer issue on a Ford electric vehicle you must make an appointment with a Ford EV Certified Technician (Mechanic). I took my hybrid in 3 times for the electric fix. On the third visit I asked for the EV Tech. "Oh this is Friday BBQ lunch day. Glenn [their 1 ev tech] is here cooking some brats. I'll have him take a look." Glenn sat in the passenger seat pushing buttons on the plug in computer box and taught a regular mechanic how to install a replacement battery. This included a process he called "marrying the battery to the [hybrid or ev] car". The point is for better or worse you bought an exotic vehicle. 1. Find a dealer with a certified EV technician. 2. Assert you want an appointment exclusively with their "EV Certified Technician". Find the nearest EV Certified dealer by going to this web page and check the box Certified Electric Vehicle Repair https://owner.ford.com/service/dealer-locator.html#/?gnav=footer-owner Of course if you are getting your tires rotated it doesn't matter.
  2. 2019 Ford Fusion Energi recalled for uncovered fuse in high-voltage area https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1121587_ford-recalls-2019-fusion-energi-over-high-voltage-shock-risk In a press release, Ford has indicated that some 2019 Ford Fusion Energis do not meet the parameters required by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 305, which sets the protection levels for high-voltage access on a car. In approximately 2,100 cars, there might be an exposed fuse due to a small space behind the fuse access panel. If the fuse is touched, it could cause harm. Although Ford does not know of any incidents resulting from the fault, eligible owners should take their vehicles to a dealership for a fix. Ford will install a cover over the high voltage battery electrical center. The Ford reference number for this recall is 19C05, we suggest calling your dealership if this could pertain to your vehicle
  3. I bought the 2017 Ford Fusion specifically for the many safety and driver assist features. The Adaptive Cruise and Stop-and Go is unnerving the first few times you use it. A few thoughts about Fusions with this feature.. NO other 2017 Ford model had Stop-and Go.You need only to watch for people changing lanes for the most part.In case something crazy happens in front of you, of course you need to be ready to apply the brakes. I have had to do this 5 times in 18 months -- always a driver futzing with their phone. You get the Hud display every time as a backup. With this feature a Ford Fusion cannot run into anything it can sense (like a wall or "maybe" a pedestrian) under 25MPH. There are YouTube videos demonstrating this at the Ford proving ground. In stop-and-go mode after a "timeout" period (30 seconds?) of being stopped, you will see the letters "RES" appear above the Cruise distance indicator on your dash. This indicates the cruise must be tickled to start back up. Don't use your foot. Press the "Up 1MPH" button on the left hand side cruise buttons to re-engage stop-and-goI would never give up this feature. After 12 months of relaxing during grueling rush hour traffic it has actually improved my health (less stress overall).I asked a guy on this forum (or a sister one) if it really worked. He demonstrated it with a hand held video in a Bay Area rush hour. He got rear-ended by a drunk shortly after the video was shot. As I recall his car had to stay in the Ford repair shop for at least an extra week because a "distance" sensor in the back quarter panel was not in stock. Lawyers at Ford said it was not acceptable to let someone drive a vehicle off their lot without ALL sensors working. This opens the dealership to liability. (crazy but makes sense)
  4. Vinci, Sorry to hear about your situation. I added your information to our list. I got out of the situation by having a procedure performed at my Ford dealer. I'll post some information after I look it up. I used to find my Fusion hybrid "dead" all the time. I had to jump my car often. Then, after the procedure (a service bulletin) was performed the problem went away. The procedure was not done properly the first time. I needed a Ford mechanic with EV certification to get it fixed. The first step is getting the Hermasillo battery replaced. I have also developed a 100% effective strategy to never be locked out, and never, not be able to start a Fusion with a dead 12V battery. I'll post more later.
  5. How do we nail down what the build date was? From my Sticker. Made in Hermossilo, Mexico 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid with reported build date of "22.11.2016" (Nov 22, 2016) according to the FordEtis website.

  7. There is definitely something going on with the 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrids & Energi models with failing 12V battery. I am tracking this and would love to start a "sticky" thread (this is it I suppose). The idea is that a sticky post will hopefully stop new threads from 2017 owners from popping up continuously (of no interest to non 2017 FFH/FFE drivers). I count seven duplicate discussions (so far on 2017 models with dead factory batteries) across the two forums. Here are 14 instances of 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid & Energi owners with 12V battery issues. MEMBER | MODEL | TRIM | BUILT | THREAD ID ------------------------------------------------------------------------ jj2me | Energi | Titanium | 06/08/2016 | N/A ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bigsam411 | Energi | Platinum | | 4507 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ckmicallef | Energi | Trim? | | 4744 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ cremefrasier | Energi | SE | | 2621 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ dano99487 | Hybrid | Trim? | | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ heplguy | Hybrid | Trim? | | 11451 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ JATR4 (year?) | Energi | Trim? | | 4507 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Paul Creed III | Energi | Trim? | | 4507 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ prott69 | Energi | Platinum | 09/??/2016 | 2719, 4751 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ rjrfusion | Hybrid | Platinum | | 11451 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ rmsaunders6 | Hybrid | Trim? | | 11451 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ stlouisgeorge | Hybrid | Platinum | 11/22/2016 | 11451 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ scherp69 | Hybrid | Trim? | | 15529 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ thewava | Hybrid | Trim? | | 11451 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ vinci | Energi | Platinum | | 4751 Older newer models? (pre 2017) head4trauma hybrid forum thread 15529 FFH 2016? Please message me if you want to tell me to take your name (from a public post) down. Also looking for info on build date. Where is that build date? (see this for now). Please, please tell me your trim in a private message if your 2017 has 12V battery issues. I have a theory these issue are specific to certain option/trim levels on 2017 models.. I will update this post as new data comes in. I will cross post to the Hybrid side. Please do not report issues with HVB or models prior to 2017 here. We are looking exclusively at defective 12V Ford Fusion batteries installed in Hermasillo here. I had my battery replaced by a Ford EV Certified technician on 04/08/2017. (!) Make sure your EV tech performs the BMS module procedure after installing a new battery. This is a cross post with the Ford Fusion Hybrid forum I will sync up as needed. (not seeing this issue on non Hybrid, non Energi Fusions -- yet).
  8. That's the math. You can't go very far on that initial 5.3 KW. The more you drive, the more a Ford Fusion Hybrid makes sense. If you actually write down the miles and divide by gallons you can knock your 40.4 down to 37.4 or so in the real word. Still very good efficiency.
  9. Every job in retail I ever had - first day the manager said "Customer comes first. Park in farthest parking space away you can find, preferably where they won't even see your vehicle." World has gone to h@ll with these whippersnapper Millenials.
  10. Check out my full coverage from my local Ford EV Certified dealership visit today concerning the "System Off to Save Battery" issue over on the FFH forum here! I cover what "EV certification" means and how important it is to make sure your Energi is only serviced by an EV certified Ford mechanic (er.. "technician") for many problems you might run into.
  11. It's also math (I think).. If a Ford Fusion Energi driver goes 20 miles on a full charge the gas mileage is Infiniti? If they drive 1000 miles without doing any charging I would assume it is about the same as the hybrid? With my 110 mile round trip commute (75% highway$ in my Ford Fusion Hybrid I get 40.5 electronic MPH (37 by pencil). What would I have gotten with an Energi? (Assume a full charge at the start of the commute). I would think about 10mpg better?
  12. No worries. Many places I have looked up my 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid Platinum [not an Energi] show it as a TITANIUM. This is my statement from my insurance (SafeCo/Liberty Mutual). VEHICLES 2017 FORD FUSION TITANIUM HEV 3FA6P0RU4HR264325 Notice! Mine is a HYBRID .. it should [at least] say "2017 FORD FUSION HYBRID TITANIUM HEV" (but does not, like the one you are looking at). BTW: I would JUMP on getting a used Fusion Platinum as soon as possible. On the other hand... STOP! Are you aware if you buy a new Ford Fusion Energi you may be eligible for a $4,007 IRS tax credit ??? !!! After all your deductions on your taxes, is your "Tax" (line 44 of an IRS 1040) for 2017 going to be greater then $4,007? This is not your withholding. This is not a deduction. This is $4,007 IN YOUR POCKET for buying a NEW environmentally friendly vehicle. This $$$$ credit is for Tax Year 2017. It would be one year from now (not in your pocket today) You may have noticed why the leases on the Ford Fusion Energi are $100 cheaper per month than a Ford Fusion Hybrid? Ford gets the $4,007 tax credit and applies it month by month to you. Make sure to check out the 8.5 cubic foot trunk Fusion Energi This is not a car for a family of four to go on an overnight road trip. If you are buying the car with 8000 miles on it. BUY the Ford Protect plan! Preferable before 12,000 miles ($100 penalty for going over 12,000/12 months but less than 36,000 miles). The rear view mirror assembly alone is $1900 plus labor. This state of the art device (with features exclusive to Fusion) includes a forward facing camera that [if equipped] will: Keeps you in your lane (vibrating the wheel if you cross the line, and then "pushing" you back into your lane. (settings can be turned off or set to loq/high intensity)Keeps you from running into a vehicle or pedestrian (stops the completely, but only under 25MPH)/40KPH [no other Ford will stop your car except the 2017 Fusion line ["if equipped"]. Over 25MPH the vehicle cannot stop you, nor detect pedestrians. If a collision is imminent it will flash lights on your windshield and sound a loud tone. If you are really in trouble for a collision it will "pre charge" the brakes so you can stop instantly if you apply the brake (you will). This saved my car about two weeks ago on the interstate.Maintains a set distance during cruise control (1, 2, 3 or 4 seconds)Turns on and off your bright/dim lightsControls your wipers by sensing rain, and more. You are going to LOVE driving a Ford Fusion [whatever one] in Platinum trim. All of the safety, tech, and luxury is amazing. Leather over the dashboard (And tucked into every where else.) Oh.. also get the Ford Protect LIGHTING OPTION (old "bulb option"). You would be amazed what your LED lights on that platinum cost (and are not covered under any Ford Protect plan). Good luck.
  13. Ford Motor Credit offers GAP insurance also. (There is a lot of fine print in there so do talk with your insurance agent for sure). https://www.ford.com/finance/vehicle-protection/gap-coverage
  14. Wow! AMT Makes you a special case. An accountant should be consulted if you aren't leasing. The dealer gets the 4,007 credit (which is built into your lease making it one heck of a low monthly price). I say get what you want and lease. Just get Gap insurance (covers you if you are "upside down" (owe more than the car is worth).
  15. Nothing personal. I am talking to someone considering a lease on an Energi through Ford motor credit (not you Deezel). Terrible advice for most people. Unless you don't have $4,007 in taxable income, or are driving for business use or someone else paying your lease payment perhaps). Wreck, trade in before end of lease, or in any way not reach the full term of your lease and YOU LOSE some or all of the tax credit built into that deliciously low lease payment. The only exceptional case would be to have insurance that buys you a new replacement car if you total yours in the first year. Liberty Mutual/SafeCo does this. This Ford lease deal is what the security industry calls a "honey trap". Luring in unsuspecting bees. If you don't have $4,007 in taxable income or you can't swing or qualify for a Ford Motor Credit 72 month interest free payment I would highly recommend looking at a used car. If this is your case make sure to get "gap insurance".
