About ebduda

  1. I have a ford Explorer Sport with the twin turbo Eco boost. The thing I'm having with driving the Explorer is the feel of the transmission and the Turbos kicking in. I prefer the smoothness of the electric drive train.
  2. I'm a new owner also and yesterday I got home and plugged it in and it sounded like a fan was running in the trunk. From the posts above the fans are activated to cool the battery? Should I wait to plug it in and if so about how long. If I plug it in when I get home from work it is usually fully charged when I go to bed and at that time I unplug it. Would it be better to start charging when I go to bed at night and then just disconnect when I go to work?
  3. As a software engineer, I would have thought they could hook the cars computer up to some sort of workstation and just run an update. You would think a dealer could do this relatively easily. What a bunch of BS. BTW on these cold weather discussions, your going to have to expend energy to heat your car weather it's from your house, and engine heater, the ICE or resistive heater. My advice would be to not worry about it and just stay warm. Your just robbing Peter to pay Paul.
  4. I see your in DC, the land of the professional taxers. They make the bill as complicated as possible so the customer has no idea what they are paying. Your probably getting screwed.
  5. I didn't add taxes and fees into my analysis because you have to pay them regardless of how much electricity I use. My .045 rate is 24/7/365. Our rates could be low because of all the Natural Gas and coal in such close proximity.
  6. I would think that updating the software on anything would be part of the Maintenance warranty. What did they charge you? What does PCM stand for?
  7. About 90% of you PC's updates are for security for the different Microsoft or other Vendor software. I'm not surprised that the software running the car doesn't need to be updated unless their is a bug they find later. In this instance, I would think the dealer would know the patch needs to be updated.
  8. I'm in Colorado and the flat residential rate is .0456 per KWH. I'm amazed at the rates some of you are paying. I estimated my costs by multiplying that by roughly 7.3/kwh to recharge and it comes out to $.33 to go about 20 miles on a full EV charge only. This is about $.016 per mile Ford rates the gas engine Ford Fusion at 22-34 so in reality it's probably 20 - 30 MPG. Let's say combines Hwy/city is 25. Gas prices in Denver are about $2.00 gallon. This equates out to about $.08/ per mile. With my low electrical rates even at these low gas prices the EV option is a great deal. So EV vs. gas is roughly a $.064 per mile savings. If you drive 5000\yr miles in EV this is a $320 savings. Now I seem to have a lot lower electrical rates than most on this board, but gas prices are at unprecedented low levels. Not if but when gas prices go back up to say $3.00/gal., the savings goes up to $520 over 5000 miles. Note: This doesn't even take into account the roughly 43/miles per gallon running in mixed EV/ICE mode. Say you do another 5000/miles a year in this mode and you are cutting your gas bill by roughly 40%. In Colorado I'm estimating my fed and state tax credits around $6200. Ford has a 1200 rebate on 2016's and the Friends and Family discount. Add it all up and for me this was a great deal. The longer you hold onto the car the better the deal becomes.
  9. Yep it's a Fusion. Sorry Ford with all the F'd cars I can't keep them straight.
  10. Talked to my tax accountant the other day and she said to reduce my tax liability I should look at buying one of these cars. She just bought one. I live in colorado and will get a 2600 state credit to go along with the 4000 fed credit. Throw in the rebates and this was a no brainer. Love the blue and how quiet this vehicle is. I traded in a 2005 f-150 super crew (was a great truck) that got 13 mpg for this gas sipper. Lookded at the Cmax and Pries but they were just compact cars. The Focus is just a beautiful car for an electric.
