About hoagie

  1. I commute a long way every day, and this happens over and over as part of normal operation. When driving uphill, the engine starts. When coasting or going downhill, the car goes into EV mode. Your mpg go up while driving at this point, because this is when your efficiency is at peak.
  2. I have a question to those that say don't use EV mode om the expressway. I have a 2014 with 16,500 miles. My commute, if I take the expressway is 58 mile 1 way, with close to 50 of it being on the expressway. My question is being able to regenerate miles is much easier off the expressway than on it, so without data to back up my theory, doesn't it make more sense to regenerate all you can? I do realize that in case I have to use some battery on the expressway, as only 8-10 miles are non e - way use. I also have a commute option of 51 miles with no expressway, but it it about 15 minutes longer timewise. Overall mileage is much better with this option, though.
  3. I am a new owner and going to bump this thread up. I drive either: 59 miles, mostly expressway, or 51 miles, no expressway. After 1 drive of each, my mileage was about the same, around 54 MPG. The difference is that the night I took the shorter slower drive, it was 12 degrees with a much lower wind chill, and my battery lasted about 2/3 as long. FYI, I did 70 mph on the expressway, which is about 50 of the 59 trip. Also, they do have chargers at work, which was a real selling point for me.
  4. Hello all, I am the proud new owner of an 2014 Energi that has only 15.6k miles. I am very pleased with my purchase. I told the dealer to charge the battery so I could test drive it a 2nd time. After getting 18 miles out of it, I figured the battery was in good shape. After all, it is winter in Michigan. I was very pleased to get 20+ miles today with temps at around 40, but I have already found out what a windy 12 degrees will do to the battery. By the way, I have tried just running the heated seats and steering wheel until the battery runs out. This is great fun, and with a 50-60 mile one way commute, I feel I found the perfect car for my wife and I. Glad to be here and hope to pick up lots of info from you fellow owners.
