Even worse is the gas door open button being in that cluster on my 2013 Fusion Energi , can't count the number of times door opened by mistake, normally followed by check engine light if not closed right then.

Had the same issue with mine. It was the 12 volt battery in the trunk. Its needed to control certain relays to start the car. Also it will ask you if car is still plugged in even when unhooked. Changed it out and all is good now.
