wythefisher Posted March 19, 2020 at 12:48 AM Report Share Posted March 19, 2020 at 12:48 AM (edited) I’ve got the new charging cable now, after ford replaced the old recalled version. Today, I noticed I have no charge. The green light is on steady, but the red light blinks five times, then pauses and begins again. I called my ford dealership and they said they would have to call me back because they didn’t know. Any internet search with various terms results in info on the old charger with the triangle fault light. Anyone know what the status indicator means? I tried searching on here for this topic too but was unable to find it, so hopefully I’m not creating clutter with a new thread. I have a 2015 Fusion Energi btw. murphy Posted March 19, 2020 at 10:30 AM Report Share Posted March 19, 2020 at 10:30 AM It may be a problem with the outlet. Plug one of these in to test the outlet. https://www.amazon.com/Sperry-Instruments-GFI6302-Receptacle-Professional/dp/B000RUL2UU/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2NOF1GHVI7TPB&keywords=outlet+tester+plug&qid=1584613655&sprefix=outlet+tester%2Caps%2C161&sr=8-
jsamp Posted March 20, 2020 at 05:21 AM Report Share Posted March 20, 2020 at 05:21 AM I don't remember if it was 5 blinks of the red light or not, but mine did the same thing when I got it home. I opened up the outlet to find the ground was not connected. The newer EVSE will not work without a proper ground.
wythefisher Posted March 20, 2020 at 01:58 PM Author Report Share Posted March 20, 2020 at 01:58 PM So I’m fairly certain it isn’t the outlet, as I have taken the cable and plugged it into various outlets, including one with a gfci reset, and higher amperage versions at my work. I’m thinking there’s a fault in the cable?
jj2me Posted March 20, 2020 at 09:17 PM Report Share Posted March 20, 2020 at 09:17 PM Aren't there two lights that can be red, Fault and Check Outlet? The user manual only has one condition where the Vehicle (green) light is on steady and another is blinking, and that's the Check Outlet indicator blinking. The manual's description says: "The convenience cord detected a high temperature at the AC plug. The AC plug has returned to a normal operating temperature. Your vehicle is ready to charge at a reduced current.* "*Have the outlet checked by a qualified electrician and make sure the AC plug fits firmly into the outlet. Contact an authorized EV certified dealer if problem persists." I've encountered this when I hadn't pushed the plug in very firmly into an old socket. I've also encountered this on a different socket (even different house), and had to switch to the second socket in the outlet when the first socket gave me this problem too often. There could very well be something wrong with the cable, given that you're sure the outlet(s) isn't the problem (I presume also that your outlet(s) worked with your old cable). wythefisher Posted March 20, 2020 at 09:43 PM Author Report Share Posted March 20, 2020 at 09:43 PM The current outlet at my home and the one I checked at work had been charging the vehicle for nearly a year now. But I checked various outlets around my home as well. I know that doesnt completely eliminate the possibility, but I fairly certain the outlet is not the issue any more. wythefisher Posted March 20, 2020 at 09:55 PM Author Report Share Posted March 20, 2020 at 09:55 PM Ok, I had to look at a 2019 manual to find the right info, as my 2015 manual refers to the old charge cable. I've attached the applicable page. I dont remember now if the power light is on or not, as that will make the difference in being a Ground fault, or Cord fault. Sad thing is my local dealer couldnt find this info to tell me...
jsamp Posted March 21, 2020 at 02:42 AM Report Share Posted March 21, 2020 at 02:42 AM That is the one I had... GFCI fault. It was because I did not have a proper ground (you'd think I should have gotten the last condition). If yours is repeating the fault at other outlets, it sounds like an issue with your cord. string Posted October 29, 2020 at 12:00 PM Report Share Posted October 29, 2020 at 12:00 PM @wythefisher - What was the outcome of this issue. Mine just started with this yesterday (10/28/20) - on 2 separate outlets - one at home and one at work. I've been using these same outlets for months. How did you resolve your problem? Thanks. roland227 Posted April 28, 2021 at 02:40 PM Report Share Posted April 28, 2021 at 02:40 PM I just got the same 5 blinks of the red light. Anyone find a fix?
Nicolister Posted September 2, 2021 at 03:11 AM Report Share Posted September 2, 2021 at 03:11 AM (edited) I had the same issue and it was not the outlet. No one could figure it out. My original that came with my 2015 was replaced by the recall. New one was sleeker and only had a green light (power) and a red fault light. After about 2 years when plugging it in, both green and red are on then red disappears. Power on but will not charge my vehicle when plugged in. I ended up getting an aftermarket one bc the pricing is ridiculous. Ruled out all the obvious. Anyone have thoughts? jsamp Posted September 3, 2021 at 05:34 AM Report Share Posted September 3, 2021 at 05:34 AM Though the new cord is made by "Amazing-E" it is actually a Clipper Creek unit with their own board inside. Maybe try contacting CC to see if they can service it? They are located in Auburn, CA.
